[VG24/7] Battlefield 1: The campaign story trailer is live - Page 6

I have a feeling this game is easily going to be the best BF title released since BFBC2. Think about it, we have been playing modern warfare FPS's for so long now that ANY move to something different will, in and of itself, feel more fresh and interesting. This is also WWI we are talking about, a hugely important World War that very few games have covered so we aren't even going to be dealing with WWII fatigue here (and honestly I really miss the WWII games at this point). Given all that and DICE's track record for making great BF games (BF4 had a decent campaign and the MP turned out to be very good eventually I'm told), I really think this game is going to take all FPS games into a new era and hopefully will spawn a new generation of WWI and WWII shooters with modern graphics. I absolutely LOVED Call of Duty 2 but the graphics were pretty bad compared to games these days. I can't wait for this game!!!

Very mediocre and forgettable within minutes. Short, completely one-dimensional characters, extremely thick AI, and story practically copy-pasted from any modern war game.
edit: also FoV was locked to 60. Not sure if that ever got fixed, didn't care.

Yes and no. It turned out to be decent near the last ~9-12 months of it's life. Up till that point it was a steaming pile of garbage.

The original dev team (DICE Sweden) was completely incompetent, having made all sorts of mind-bogglingly retarded decisions with gameplay. The very foundations of BF4 were built on poorly structured spaghetti code which made it a nightmare to fix even the simplest issues without breaking 10 other things. It's still like that, which is why some consider it a miracle that the game works at all.
It took around 8-10 months after launch before a completely different dev team took over (DICE LA), launched the CTE initiative and worked for an additional 4-5 months to fix the most critical issues with the game. Then they finally started improving the core gameplay and stepping up the netcode. Up till this point the playerbase suffered.

So with BF4 people need to be specific when they say "DICE". The original dev team who made the base game (and some initial DLCs) was full of blibbering idiots, and then a completely different team with actual brains took over to finally save the game.

BF1 is supposedly the result of all the lessons learned from the borderline-disaster that was BF4, while borrowing additional lessons learned from SWBF and Hardline. On top of this they have recruited a member from the Symthic community to help balance the weapons, kits & vehicles. So in theory the game should be incredible.

edit: Keep in mind I have 1250 hours in BF4 tongue.gif

I never played a BF before. I used to play the hell out of Crysis 1 multiplayer for years (Power struggle is the best FPS multiplayer ever btw) so although I've always wanted to, I never wanted to spend money on it. I've been wanting to play BF4 since it came out but never threw the cash down. I played the BF1 beta and thought it was really good and the graphics were pretty incredible.

I really want to buy this game when it comes out but 2 things piss me off.... 1st is Origin. If I never hated EA for anything else, this one thing makes me loathe the company to the point I really don't want to support them. It pissed me off when Crysis 3 came out and I had to install their stupid program to run ONE game. Now here I am again, getting forced to reinstall this junk to run another ONE game.

What is the logic in it? They can't compete with Steam... and why would they want to? They would sell MORE games if they just put all their games on Steam..... UUUGGHGHGHHHH it really gets me heated just thinking about it.

Dag.. I never heard all that. I always assumed the game was good... It looked good, a lot of people played it, and it's #4 so I figured why wouldn't it be good... hmmmm.

Just out of curiosity, besides having to spend the 30 seconds installing Origin, what do you have against it?

The fact that you're already passing judgement about this "horrible campaign" before the game is even released, though, about something not even present in the beta, is enough to tell me everything i need to know about your opinion, lol.

Dude, it is a single player campaign.. ergo it is going to suck, unless you are a noob trying to learn.

Battlefield for the last 14 years, has been about squad & team play, in multiplayer environment. Most CoD players graduate to Battlefield. So I see why a single player walk threw was important to them, so those who can't play yet, don't get all butthurt for buying the game...  because they are fodder.

So, it is nice to see DICE include the outsiders in on BF1, & including an in-depth Single Player walk threw and teach the noobs the depth of the game, before they get to/attempt multiplayer... but the SP has nothing to do with the actual game. Its battlefield..

You have it backwards...

DICE Sweden only makes heritage games. The once that start with the DOM DOm DUN DOm Dun..

Battlefield 1942

Battlefield Vietnam

Battlefield 2

Battlefield 2142

BadCompany, BattleFront & Hardline were all EA derived console ports to inject "Battlefield" @ the kiddies and onto the consoles, etc. Those games, (including BF3 & 4) were dumbed-down, because EA wanted the playstyle more easier for CoD types, who could pick up on it. Otherwise "too hard" syndrome. We all know BF4 was pushed threw with re-used assets, etc. EA DICE decision, not Stockholm. DICE Sweden didn't want to make console games like BC, or Hardline... though, they were called in to help the incompetent visionaries @ EA DICE.

DICE has refined and engineered their engine every version, since BF1942. Now all the tech is finally under one roof in Windows10 and DICE will showcase BF1's large scale physics, and small scale physics. Additionally, porting a "dumbed down version" console port to Xbox takes hardly nothing now (thanks MS). So, this time around BF console players win, because of both PC and XBox One share DX12 & Vulkan and get a taste of DICE Sweden goodness.

Battlefield One should be like BF2 all over again... (in gameplay)

BF campaigns may be shoddy, but at least the developers are trying something. The second someone makes a game based on a scenario that has seen little to no use (World War 1), everyone just don't care and just want to buy AGAIN and play AGAIN the SAME game with a different skin AGAIN just like they've been doing since 2011.

I miss when first person shooters had a good single player mode.

The Doom reboot is bloody fantastic, although I guess its a different kind of game to military themed shooters.

On topic, I like the look of this, I havent played Battlefield really since BFBC 2, tried BF3 and it felt like the same game to me and I was already bored. BF 1 might offer something a bit different in single player and multi as well, looks great.
