Moooooo....milk milk milk. biggrin.gif

The give away to me was the folding PPD. Saw the average output and was like....so Maxwell on speed.

I don't game much, so I tend to only upgrade if I get a huge boost in folding or boincing. Going from the old used OG Titans to these 980Tis was a huge boost for me. The OG Titan averaged 200K PPD (My little 960 with heavy OC does that). The 980Ti I have averages around 650-750K PPD, very good WUs it been high as 980K PPD. Though, the new WUs are a bugger at the moment no matter if it is a Maxwell or Pascal.

Reason I hope Volta be another huge jump like from Kepler to Maxwell was. Would love to go from 650-700K PPD to something like 1.3mil PPD or higher out of a card.

Come out with a 1080 TI already so i can give you my freaking money.

And why are people saying they are acting like intel?

In one generation Nvidia almost DOUBLED the performance of their gpus.   980  to 1080 is 80-100% faster depending on the game while i think using less power.

I probably understand that 1080/1070 need more bandwidth.

but 1060? that thing is on 192bit with just half the shader that 1080 had. Basically in order for 1080 to have same shader/bandwidth ratio as 1060, 1080 need to run on 12GHz GDDR5X.

Because prices go up relative to chip size. Compare it to gtx 560! Also it is more 70-80%. The higher improvement are because of bad compatibility of the 980 with some dx12 games. CPU's cost about the same but the part of the CPU are getting smaller and smaller, it is mostly the dGPU that increase in size.

You're a victim of nomenclature. The 1080 is more expensive than the 980 when it came out.

A better comparison would be 980 vs 1070. Either way, there was evolution.

980 msrp was like what 550?  1080 msrp is 599?  So about 100% performance gain for a 9% price hike? You can't tell me that aint good.

780 was 499 msrp.

680 and 580 was 500 msrp.

^ pretty much THAT.

from what i understand (no i am not an expert but play one on TV. biggrin.gif ) the bandwidth of gddr5X is enough until gpus substantially increase their performance.

yeah, it was an article i read somewhere when the 1080 was released, but it seemed well written and had some relative numbers crunched. BUT if someone has the preference to pay for something they don't need . . . this is OCN! tongue.gif
