Nvidia may have said $599, but the retail prices were well above that for quite some time. Similar situation to AMD and Polaris actually, but at least they didn't have the gall to sell the reference model for an extra 15%.

Pretty sure there was lots of cards with blower type coolers that where 599-610 on release, and pcpartpicker price charts show this,  they where just sold out fast and because of that supply and demand went in to effect causing price rises.

I don't know that it was lots. Gigabyte had one, but that's about the only one I remember, and the pcpartpicker price trend doesn't show anything less than $600 until sometime in July.

Ya i didnt realize they came out in may,  because alot of the charts i looked at only started in July so i thought that's when it came out., so i admit im kinda of wrong on that part.  I was just going by Msrp.  But im getting off track,  all im suggesting is 980 to 1080 is such a giant leap in performance that 50-100 dollars more aint that bad of a deal to me.  Others may feel different.   Not trying to argue guys, i was just comparing msrp and not the price hiking sorry.

Did the 980 come out at its suggest retail or was it more costy?

I think the 980 was mostly at MSRP when it came out (except for the normal gouging of course, but the list prices were close to MSRP). The FE nonsense messed up the 1080/1070 launch prices.

The big price hikes were early adapters selling on eBay of Amazon. All the companies that I looked at when the 980, 980ti, 1080 were released were close. Not sure what ya'll mean gouging. Sorry. redface.gif

You mean Maxwell is what Pascal should have been.

I rmb reading a article back in 2013 about the speculation of Maxwell with 20nm SoC in 2014, they mentioned that the flagship GPU will comes with 3840 cores using Maxwell architecture in 2014. It was pretty spot on. Except the release was delayed for 2 years due to the failure of 20nm node.

We should all thanks TSMC in fact for this, had 20nm been successful we would have enjoy this level of performance back in 2014, and Fury X with 20nm would have been more competitive as well.
