I have been a member for over 5 years but am not allowed to sell items?!

Damn, I have been on this forum for YEARS and have bought at least a few items via the marketplace. Now I want to sell a few items on the marketplace but apparently I have ZERO "rep" whatever the hell that means. So what do I need to do to sell on here? help people with questions? I come here to ask questions, i'm no expert! Every other forum I sell on just requires you to have been a member for a certain amount of time and maybe have to have a certain amount of posts, but never heard of this "rep" thing. seems stupid if you ask me, and is probably why the marketplace seems so dull with so little to buy!

from the rules: The reason for the limit is the marketplace is provided for members who have contributed to the forum, not just someone who stopped in here to get rid of junk

yes your account is 5 years old but you only got 41 posts including this one, hardly an active member fella

If you can sell and have elsewhere why sell here??? But seriously I like the rep yes it was a pain to eventually get enough to sell but it helps avoid getting broken parts or crAp. By your attitude I wouldn't want to buy from you specially if somewhere were to go wrong

Reputation (REP) is defined as follows:
Quote:
Reputation is a feature within the forum that allows members to acknowledge other members for leaving posts that are beneficial to the forum and it's membership as a whole.

You can read more about it here.

As another member here already stated - you require 35 REP to sell.
Quote:
We cannot and will not make exceptions to this 35 REP limit for creating your own listing.

You can read more about the Marketplace Rules here.

I hope this helps.

I wanted to sell on here because I really like this forum and the members have always been helpful, it just upset me that I couldn't even though I've been off and on here for years and am obviously not just stopping by. Like I said, I sell on every other forum I'm on so it's not a big deal I just wanted to vent.

The rep system here doesn't really help you avoid that.... Like any other forum with a Rep system all it means is you took part in some way (helpful or not) or simply farmed rep points. For a buyer there is far more assurance from certain other places that will do a force refund simply because a buyer claims there was an issue... whether there was or not (I say forced because on that certain site if you don't do the refund on that perfectly good item the buyer no longer wants.. they do take the money, give it back and let them keep the item too).

I don't personally have an opinion on the OP one way or another.. I'm simply stating that the Rep system here (or on any other forum) isn't really protecting you.

I don't have enough Rep to sell here.. but I'm not going to complain about it.. because I've been selling online else where for 18 years... with 100% rating and stupid amounts of feedback. So on that aspect I agree with the general attitude of the replies. If you can sell else where.. why complain here.

There is a great (in general) forum community here... and that's what I like about this site.

I disagree. Even though I'm new here, that seems like a Mickey Mouse rule. In the early days of Evil Bay, they restricted me because I wouldn't do reviews on my purchases. I sued them and won.
The idea of these forums should be to attract people who can contribute something . A little or a lot shouldn't matter. Another thing I dislike is if there is a difference of opinion, someone will call the other a troll; .because they think they have seniority.. Someone will say big deal; however I've been involved with computers since it took 64 punch cards to make a letter.and yes things are a lot different today, but I do try to keep up and I don't know about you people, but I have little time to waste in life on people or companies with attitude.
As a comparison it reminds me of Microsoft today. It's as if they want to have their own little club. Follow these rules or else. Yes they are an awesome enormous empire, however if a descent competitor showed up with a reasonable OS the landscape could change. Need I remind all that once, WordPerfect had the best word processor and Lotus was the best Spreadsheet. teaching.gif

Everybody here at OCN has always been informative. negative or positive reviews on things always helps.

However complaining about selling when you're never on the site, doesnt make sense. Put in your effort and help out your fellows here. We're all friends here.

If you want to sell; be apart of the community! look how long ive been a member and I dont have my rep up enough lol.
