Thank you. That's a big compliment.

Exactly. Requiring a certain number of Reps to use the marketplace is the best way they could come up with to help increase the safety of the marketplace. Sure, it's not foolproof, but what system is? Someone might say, "well, they could start charging for memberships on here, or they could require a paid membership just to use the marketplace", but that would make it far easier and far less time-consuming to gain the right to use OCN's marketplace. Paying for such a privilege doesn't show that you're here to benefit the community, first and foremost. Earning lots of Rep does.

This site just like many other forums are here for you to gain .
Someone like me , I have over 50 heat , and a eBay score over 400 , I Think I should be able to show this and be able to sell off of that solely . That alone shows I am here to help and sell on a good level .
When you say people are here purely to profit , if they only want to sell and carry on . I disagree with that . I think that should be ok as well. I look at the market as another source to gain from . 2nd had stuff is helpful all on its own . Sometimes much more than info needed , or opinions on a build and so forth . People being able to afford things that would normally make you bankrupt is awesome . and a lot more people would sell if they didnt have to scower the forms for years trying to get rep out of people who wont even teach there own kids to wipe correctly . To simply be able to put some tings up for sale is such a huge task . . I don't see why it is a big deal if one only wants to use the market and move on, It still provides great things to the community , just in different regards . I even think some rep , and x amount of posts is a good idea . but 35 rep is kinda crazy and holding back the community quite a bit in my eyes . Either way , I unfortunately don't make the rules . so the voyage to be able to sell parts continues .

Tons of Heat and a very good eBay rating doesn't mean that a person won't come here, use the marketplace, and then leave when they're done (or come back later when they have more stuff to sell). It doesn't prove that the person is here to be dedicated to the community. It doesn't prove anything except they are good at selling stuff.

OCN's 35 Rep requirement isn't to prove that the person is a good seller or that they're safe to buy from or anything like that. No. It's to prove that they aren't just here to use the marketplace. It's to help prove that they're here to stay. If all a person wants to do is use OCN's marketplace, then they can go somewhere else. After all, OCN is not a marketplace. It's a forum. If you want to sell stuff on here but you don't want to do what it takes to earn Rep, then you will never earn the right to use OCN's marketplace (and you don't deserve it either).

OCN doesn't want people who are only here for the marketplace. The ability to use OCN's marketplace is a privilege and a right that you earn by being dedicated to this community. If someone doesn't like that, then that's tough. They can go somewhere else to sell their stuff! OCN didn't create the marketplace so that anyone and everyone can just come here and use it right away. You have to prove that you deserve to have this privilege. It's something that you earn by being dedicated to the community.

How are you going to disregard that selling to the community is not helpful all in its own? Acting as if this page would be better off without it . I mean I, along with many others would not have been able to build the computer that I have now without forums , and sale pages just like the one this page offers . They, on there own have helped me with " computers" more than any forum ever has . You want to sit here and act like 35 percent of you members are not here for that purpose only . To buy and sell used computer goods. They other 65 percent are here for advice and useful info, which is fine . But saying selling does not offer the same help as answering a dumb question that the answer can be found on the first link on google , but I get rep because the op was too lazy to search on his own and needs to be spoon fed is absurd ..

I just think the market place is one of the more beneficial things the page offers , and your sitting here acting like it is a god send to be able to do so. I don't have a ton of time to look for and reply on topics I can help in, and that forbids me from being active in the pursuit to helping people getting affordable parts for there next build with a good seller .

Again, you EARN the right and privilege of using OCN's marketplace by proving that you are here to participate in the community - that you're not just here to use the marketplace. OCN is NOT a marketplace, IT'S A FORUM.

I don't see why this is so difficult to understand. OCN wants people who are going to be here to help create useful content. If you want to use OCN's marketplace but you aren't interested in participating on the forums, then you can go somewhere else to sell your stuff because there are plenty of good places that are solely dedicated to that. OCN is first and foremost a forum.

So again, the ability to use OCN's marketplace is a right and a privilege that you EARN by being dedicated enough to the community to earn the 35 Reps that are required. It's EXTREMELY easy to earn 35 Rep, so I don't really see what the big deal is.

This argument has resurfaced hundreds of times over the years and NOTHING has changed. So what makes you think it's going to change now? There's really nothing anyone can say to get OCN to remove the 35 Rep requirement. To be honest, I hope they never change it because requiring 35 Rep encourages people who want to use the marketplace to participate on the forums. Again, OCN is a forum, not a marketplace.

I bet we could ask around and find people who actually became dedicated members simply because of the 35 Rep requirement, and I would bet these people are very glad of it. I would also bet that there are people who they have helped who are glad of it too.

It is not hard to understand . I get it .

Why are you avoiding what I am saying . The market place is just as useful to some as the info gained in the forms . Being a seller or a buyer is participating . IT DOES HELP PEOPLE IN A DIFFERENT WAY . How are you going to judge what is more helpful to one or another ? what im getting at is the comunity would be more active, not only with better parts to be had , but more high end builds if they did not have to jump through hoops to unload last years flag ship hardware .

One thing nobody has mentioned yet is how the rep requirements help with scammers.

Open up the marketplace to everyone and anyone and watch the scammers start pouring in.

Scammer typically don't want to put in the effort to qualify here so they will pick another target.

From time to time, it does happen anyway but most certainly not as much as if the requirements were low.
