Well find a projector that give 461DPI per eye and you will match an Oculus.

Is there some sort of math to translate PPI based on distance from the screen to the eye. Maybe something that comes up with a perceived PPI because normal "good" PPI numbers don't seem to apply once your eye is an inch and a half from the screen.

The Oculus doesn't have good PPI its just better then pretty much any projector on the market. To give a humans focal range we're going to need massive amounts of pixels. The Oculus is just the best we have right now.

So what's the point if you need glasses anyway? And as much as I'm not a big fan just yet, what happened to head tracking?

I mean if there's no crosstalk with the stereoscopic 3D then that's nice as least, my main reason for wanting an HMD is really the flawless stereoscopic 3D (and games made around that). Someone's got experience with polarized glasses to share? Never tried those yet, personally.

Polarized glasses allow you to shift the image to both eyes using one screen. Each eye sees every other frame slightly shifted.

That's the point of polarized glasses indeed. I was rather wondering if there's crosstalk and how much, if so! Looking back to anaglyph glasses and shutter glasses, those things sure had some issues. While polarized in theory at least, only has to deal with reduced resolution per eye. (something I don't really mind, personally)
