[Eurogamer] Advertising Standards launches investigation into No Man's Sky - Page 2

The person who filed the complaint has valid concerns about the games storepage on steam. To me and many others they are advertising claims and depictions that dont actually exist in the game whatsoever. Hopefully, false advertisement is proven and both companies have to edit the page or face sanctions.

I'll buy once it's bargain bin for $15.

And this is why we dont pre-order ANYTHING EVER.

I hope those that bought the game pre-/day1 will get wise, because developers will continue to float this line of lies, 1/2 truths, and 1/2 finished games as long as they have our money before we know what we are getting.

Just say no to pre-orders.

Agree, I can't believe any fool ever fell for any pre order, at any time, ever. Just lol. Why the hell would you preorder a video game? Are there somehow going to be limited copies? Does digital copying somehow magically not work, only when it comes to games? So if you don't preorder, you might not get one?? Harsh, but needs to be read by some people out there, for all our sakes.

I used to preorder game before but only on collector or limited edition. I even stop preordering all together now because developer cant keep their promise and their game is always broken on day 1.

Even with preorder limited item or reward
I stop trusting all and wont buy any game until heavily discounted

We unfortunately still have people that defend the $60 per game pricing, and continue to preorder games. Its tough to have sympathy when the same people fall for it again and again.

I remember when preordering a game first became a thing. It was needed back then because if a game was popular and hyped enough, and didn't have a massive first shipment, it could take you upwards of a month to see it in availability. It also used to cost more money.

Say a 60$ game is coming out. You can preorder it for 67.50 with no bonuses back then. Your bonus was being assured you would have a copy waiting for you on the day of release and anyone who didn't preorder was usually SOL and had to wait a month or so to buy and play the game. You couldnt rent it because It was guaranteed the rental shop would be out of all copies all the time.

I remember these times because I got shafted by not getting preorders when they first started doing it, having to wait a month to play, going to the rental store 5 times a day to try and catch a copy there before someone snatched it up, asking the employees what day the soonest copy would be due back and literally waiting around hours hoping it would come through the door, and not getting it anyway.

Preorders started as a necessity to serious gamers, but now with digital distribution platforms the reason for preorders doesnt exist anymore. Now the industry has just bastardized what used to be a useful service.

Not to mention many consumers nowadays are all about instant gratification and hype, especially the younger they are. If the pre-order comes out with some sort of bonus, they will throw their wallets without hesitation.
