Harsh, but needs to be read by some people out there, for all our sakes.
I remember when preordering a game first became a thing. It was needed back then because if a game was popular and hyped enough, and didn't have a massive first shipment, it could take you upwards of a month to see it in availability. It also used to cost more money.
Say a 60$ game is coming out. You can preorder it for 67.50 with no bonuses back then. Your bonus was being assured you would have a copy waiting for you on the day of release and anyone who didn't preorder was usually SOL and had to wait a month or so to buy and play the game. You couldnt rent it because It was guaranteed the rental shop would be out of all copies all the time.
I remember these times because I got shafted by not getting preorders when they first started doing it, having to wait a month to play, going to the rental store 5 times a day to try and catch a copy there before someone snatched it up, asking the employees what day the soonest copy would be due back and literally waiting around hours hoping it would come through the door, and not getting it anyway.
Preorders started as a necessity to serious gamers, but now with digital distribution platforms the reason for preorders doesnt exist anymore. Now the industry has just bastardized what used to be a useful service.
