[Eurogamer] Advertising Standards launches investigation into No Man's Sky - Page 5

I never felt wronged by Valve it's just business and I was able to have some fun at the time just turning off the hud and getting lost while exploring even with and after the save bug. I noticed a few things though, the first is the mass amount of refunds handed out to hedge a foreseeable loss past the 2 hr limit and even the 40-50 hr limit. Another is despite all that the game is still marketed by Sony and the company's leverage still has that ad up on the steam store page. It is going to be interesting what happens next and what Valve might have to do for people who bought the game during when they were hosting false advertisement on their store.

Also, at the end of the day, I don't think it was advertised as a multiplayer game, infact I think it was advertised as single-player.

Steam has a policy, they are going to stick to it. I think it's nice that they offer refunds the way they do (I've refunded a few games with a few clicks and no interaction with a human whatsoever - it's perfect).

OP got 30 Hours of game play out of it. Personally I think this is a very long time to realize the game is not what you paid for (there are very few games that I have played for more than 30 hours in my entire life), you've pretty much gotten your money's worth of game time ($60 for 30 hours, $2/hour of entertainment .... that's far far cheaper than going to watch a movie at the cinemas or other comparable entertainment).

How in the world is a movie comparable to a game as entertainment? Not even close, you only get to see that movie one time, and never again unless you pay again. The same for any event or comedy show or race or boxing match or what have you.

The only thing you can compare is other actual AAA games or even budget games. Something you pay for and expect to get a lot of enjoyment from with your purchase. I wouldnt even pirate no mans sky, because its clear it is a horrible game that is not fun or anywhere near what has been shown about it.

GTA V 60$ 200 hours of playtime = .30 cents an hour or 666.67% the value he got from no mans sky
Fallout 4, 60$ 500 hours of playtime = .12 cents an hour or 1666.67% the value he got from no mans sky
Minecraft 15$ around 2000 hours of playtime = 0.0075 cents an hour or 26666.67% he got from no mans sky

And these games are exactly what you expect them to me and not heavily gimped, while his game (No Man's Sky) is. He was ripped off, plain and simple. People don't buy 60$ games expecting 30 hours or less of enjoyment. He sounds like he doesn't have any interest in playing it anymore.

No Man's Sky advertised like you were getting GTA V, but instead got GTA 3 with GTA V's graphical quality on medium. The entire game is gimped from what they showed.

Upon reading into this further: it should be noted that the ASA has no teeth. Even though there is evidence of wrongdoing, they merely issue "recommendations" to other agencies and cannot punish anyone for anything.

I also a little bit blame Sony for this game.

They advertised it so much, backed it up a lot, I wonder if they ever quality checked the game.

And right after the game's release, they just never mentioned the game as well.

I think GTA V on medium looks better.

There should be an FTC rule here in the USA.

Nothing but un-retouched, in-game (not just "in engine") shots and videos withing 6 months prior to the release. Also, nothing from the vertical slice version. What ever the state is of the final build 6 months out, that's what is shown until release.

No CGI trailers. No "in-engine" trailers. Only trailers cut together from direct feed video running on the respective hardware.
