Both my Seagate 3TB died after ~ 3.5-4.5 years. I do not mind the data that much. Having HDD that can have warranty for 5 year means I would get replacement without having to shill out another $200. You are right about the 1 year mark but with most new driver we do not know how reliable they will be. 2 year warranty is simply too low.

What do you mean by China. $80 still better than $105.

I have a 1TB Hitachi that's about 7 years old. It's one amazing drive, unlike the Seagate I have that is dying a very slow and agonising death.

I live in China so I buy in China and in China WD Reds can be had for 80 USD.

It's a 5700 rpm one which seems weird.

My HDD are Western Digital, i just use them to store blurays etc for Plex media server.   They seem to work pretty good.

the only problem is costs.

as much as NVMe becoming more popular as of today, most of them are purely premium high-performance SSDs.
they aren't the cheap kind where you could just pick up a 500GB~2TB NVMe SSD with your pocket money.

SATA based SSDs will still be dominant for low-cost SSDs, specially when the speed advantage of NVMe gives minuscule benefits towards <800MB/s SSDs.
