Before anyone misunderstands the intentionally confusing title, the robot doesn't feel anything, it just relays haptic feedback to the remote human operator.

It's not the robots who need it, it's the human controlling the robot. Think from a medical/surgery perspective.

The sensitivity and touch of human fingers is one of the biggest reasons why surgeons still work with their hands instead of using robot arms (well that, and the versatility of what human fingers can do). The gain in precision is nowhere near worth the loss of touch/sensitivity.

And also there has to be some worry the robot will glitch out inside the body and start tearing it apart. You'd hope they'd code it so it has maximum acceleration speeds and general movement limitations, but everything breaks/fails/buggs out one day!

Well, no that isn't going to be a problem. Our CNC machines at work have never once done something they weren't told to, a medical robot will be the same.

I thought we already do this kinda stuff.... Kinda like high end steering wheels for racing simulators. Its just sensors on the robot to gauge the force needed to return back.
