GTX 1070 SLI - Scaling Comparison

Thread Starter
So I just got my 2nd GTX 1070 to run in SLI and decided I'd do a small write up because the scaling is actually amazing. Even at 2560x1440. More then most reviews are showing I think.

First off I'll show firestrike performance preset. Remember this is performance preset and scaling is still amazing. Look at graphics score its the only thing that matters. Also the single card score was at 4.6ghz on the CPU and the SLI score was at 4.5ghz which is the reason for the difference in CPU score.

Single Card:

SLI:

***Sorry for the difference in screenshots for this one. I got lazy and didn't want to bother running everything again***

GTA5
Maxed under graphics except 4xmsaa for both anti aliasing settings. Advanced graphics untouched.

Single Card:

SLI:

RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER (DX12)

First all settings max except anti aliasing set to FXAA

Single Card:

SLI:

Now everything completely maxed (4xtsaa)

Single Card:

SLI:

Temperatures:

After about 1 hour of gameplay on The Witcher 3 with no vsync or framecap. Both GPU 100% usage.

Any games anyone wants me to try let me know. I expected about 60-80% scaling because of 1440p, but it seams to scale much better just like 4k in most of the SLI reviews I have read. Also consider in sli core clocks are 1860-1873mhz and single card is 1898-1920mhz or something like that. With identical clocks the scaling would be a few % more. This was all done with stock setting and fan profiles.

My experience has been largely the same. The HB SLI bridge definitely helps too, especially @ 1440P or higher. I think the limiting factor at the moment is probably my CPU. I find that the GPUs rarely max out unless they are heavily pushed in a benchmark.

Because you have an i7 6700k @ 4.6Ghz, that means your GTX 1070's are getting an excellent amount of CPU resources to work with.

Ya im only running it at 4.5ghz for now tho. Dont really need more and runs perfectly at 1.3v whereas 4.6ghz needs 1.36v. Still not a big deal but temps are so good at 4.5ghz i just leave it. This is using 2 black ribbon bridges. My asrock hb bridge is on its way. Cheapest bridge i could find and matches my build perfectly. Other then the fact it says asrock on it but thats an easy work around. I think DDR4 helps out wheb running this much gpu horsepower too. Rise of the Tomb Raider was using 11gb of ram on maximum settings. Gta5 was using about 8gb and still rising.

That is impressive, your 3D mark score for one 1070 is close to my 780Ti SLI setup, but that SLI score is awesome - scaling is great on these! I was thinking about 1080/1080Ti's, but maybe 1070 is the way to go...

If u dont already have a 1070 then waiting to see what the 1080ti has to offer is the way to go.

In the GTA 5 test, looks like some micro studder. Max frame times are high. How does it look to you?

I'm also running 1070 sli. Came from a single 980ti. Pretty much the same power consumption and when scaling is good twice the performance.

I've been playing battefront lately, butter smoother for me. Easy to hit 144hz @1440p ultra settings.

I don't find any microstutter really. Honestly if u watch the benchmark it looks much smoother in sli mode at these settings. Also seams to have cut down a lot on the massive drops when driving or walking threw grass. When playing I use vsync tho to cut down on tearing. If there was a lot of variation the average wouldn't be so low. Likely just a hiccup at start or end of the passes or something. You can see this because each pass with high max frametime also has a super low min fps. Which is obviously never visible.

I just finished uploading a 3440x1440 run of GTA V. Mostly Ultra settings, but instead of AA, I decided to scale the resolution to 1.25x.

I apologize for the sound. I'm not sure what's up, but the volume is really low.
