Thank you! More never hurts. It's my wallet, so let's not fret over it. Good GRAVY!!!!!! Why are so many people worried about what PSU I put in?
I always say more is better than having less, again, my wallet. So, that being said, enjoy your 550 watt system.
I'm upgrading my video cards here shortly, so that extra power may come in handy.

EDIT:
With all that being said, I am looking for a "SWEET" 8 gig card, that can be overclocked, and cross fired. Any suggestions? Around $300 + or -

Or, if you live near a microcenter and it's in stock, you could just get a Sapphire Fury. I know... It's not 8GB, but the high memory bandwidth should usually clear before that would really matter.

I'm thinking about picking up the 2 left in stock at my store. They're going for ~$280 right now, which makes it a steal over any 480s at >MSRP.

I've been looking at that one too, but no where does it say it is DX12 capable. Otherwise................

If that was at me, it's GCN 1.2, so it supports DX12_0.

Yes it was at you. It is DX12? WOOHOO!!biggrin.gif

Done! Thanks for the information! wheee.gif

I'm currently running a Sapphire 8 gb 290X that is always running at 100%. The highest temps it sees is 78C in the summertime. I expect the Sapphire Fury to provide similar cooling.

not sure why the craze for the PSU argument here. I mean they do make power supplies in between 550W and 1000W if you want to err to one side of the power spectrum...

I think all twocables is trying to say is that its much better to spend the money on higher quality PSU with maybe a bit lower output than a higher output PSU with lesser quality components at the same price. There's more to PSU than saying "why get the 650W $100 PSU when i can get a 1000W PSU for $75??"

There's much more to PSU's than their rated output. And if any component is going to fail in a system or cause problems, its more than likely going to be the PSU.

For a small story of my experience, i helped a friend of mine with a very budget oriented build a few years ago. He went through two corsair cx series power supplies before switching to an evga g2 unit. Had numerous problems with the cx series regarding overclocking anything, playing a demanding game, etc. switched from a cx600 to the evga g2 650 and every single issue has gone away. And this was a g3258 + gtx760 build. those things should just sip power compared to other pcs.

but i think were all smart enough to stay away from the cx series power supplies now LOL. The QC on the parts used in those low end power supplies is just pure crap so that they can sell them for as cheap as they do. They sell them KNOWING there will be a % of failures, and that a lot of people will simply just not even bother to RMA and buy a new one. Its just the way business works unfortunately. Its all calculated and accounted for and the PSU maker's get their end profit which is all that matters.

I actually remember the distinct words, '32GB is a whale on AM3+.'

It was one of the reasons I pulled mine from 32 to 16 and noticed a good uptick in system responsiveness immediately, then being able to OC the memory better and really tighten the timings down.

Depends on the Ram/board I noticed no difference between 16 and 32 however faster sticks such as 2400mhz+ can be hard to get working. However I believe duel rank is faster with 2 sticks then with 4 or less stressful?

I struggled with mine, it was a triumph to get it to run at 1866 (2133 stock) with 13-13-13-30 (10-11-11-30 stock).

Ended up pulling two sticks and could OC a little and got single digit timings. Definitely prefer the faster and tighter over more. Especially with the few consumer programs that are able to use more then 16 right now.
