Folding with gtx970 and gtx980ti in one rig?

I just bought a second hand gtx 980 ti.biggrin.gif
In my current PC i have a overclocked gtx970.
My plan is to use both cards for folding. devil.gif

Can i just add the 980ti in my current PC and use it for folding?
Or is there some modifications required to achieve this?

I looked for this on the forum but i couldn't find an answer.

There should be no problem. When you start the program back up, it should recognize the new GPU.

Will this be 24/7 folding rig? If so, we sure would love to have you fold on that 980Ti in Team Competition - Interested?

I'm thinking about it, but i'm first going to check the impact on my power consumption and my electric bill.
I will let you know when i figured all that out.

another question.

I have a 850W PSU, is that powerful enough to run both the 970 and the 980ti at full speed?

Wile i don't have my killawatt meter hooked up to my GTX 980 folding rig at the moment, i believe it could draw around 250 to 300 watts at 1580Mhz, Figure about 400watts for the 980ti, i think you have plenty of power to spare - at least i would be comfortable with 850w PSU smile.gif. Maybe someone else will chime in.

My PC is currently drawing 350 watts with my gtx970 overclocked to 1495MHz.
So i have some spare room there. wink.gif
But it seems it will be hard on the electricity bill.battery.gif

I suppose you could just pause the folding on the 970 until foldathons thumb.gif but I think the 970 will consume power while idle - how much, I am not sure.
You could also just pull the 970 out of the rig until needed (FaT's biggrin.gif )

Personally though, I would put a dirt cheap rig together anything that can hold that 980ti and make it a 24/7 folder as I believe the PPD/watt ratio is better than the 970. I would just use the 970 as a gaming/folding as and when needed. This should ease the burden of electricity on your wallet redface.gif
