Folding with gtx970 and gtx980ti in one rig? - Page 2

I have a GTX 980 Ti and a 970 in my daily rig. When it folds it does about 800k PPD with modest OC's. It has a Best Buy Rocketfish/Huntkey 900w PSU.

People give me crap about the PSU but it still works after over three years of 24/7.

You could also just pull the 970 out of the rig until needed (FaT's biggrin.gif )

Personally though, I would put a dirt cheap rig together anything that can hold that 980ti and make it a 24/7 folder as I believe the PPD/watt ratio is better than the 970. I would just use the 970 as a gaming/folding as and when needed. This should ease the burden of electricity on your wallet redface.gif

I might have some spare parts in the basement. rolleyes.gif
Let me check if i can built my self a complete pc with it just for folding

On some pictures of folding rigs i noticed a dummy connector on graphics cards that aren't connected to actual screens.
Do i need to do this is well with one of my card if i put the m in the same PC?

Only if you run Linux... otherwise Xorg / Driver don't get loaded.

The 980Ti is arrived and installed.
Normally my PPD should go up now (at the moment is says PPD is 740k)
I noticed that the card is unstable when overclocking above 1400 MHz, it seems the voltage drops when overclocked.
Anybody an idea why the card is doing the opposite of what is expected when overclocked?

It is a Asus Strix OC Active with stock bios.

I actually noticed that my PPD is lower then that from my 970, in the last 3 hours i only received 7000 points mad.gif.

It seems i'm getting errors on several WU's.
In the log i can find the message:" Bad state detected ... attempting to resume from last good checkpoint"
this shows 3 times and then i get the message:" ERROR max retries reached"
Folding@home core shutdown: BAD_WORK_UNIT
Fahcore returned: BAD_WORK_UNIT (114=0x72)

So i now returned the card to its default clocks and hope for the best.
I just hope this card isn't messed up.

Anybody any suggestions on how to get an overclock working on this card?

From my experience that error comes from unstable OC.
