I believe its a myth that water cooled is quieter unless its under load

Firstly you need zero air to stop the gurgling/splashing sounds but even with a good German pump the buzz is annoying, buzz from a water pump is the worst low db sound I have heard after coil whine, I would really rather hear some good quality fans.

My air cooled PC is way more quiet at night or when web browsing than my previous water cooled with the best pump I could buy imported from Germany.

The only thing is the GPU fan while loud under load isnt noticeable when I play because of my speakers besides its a founders edition.

My PC is so quiet at idle my problem is the barely audible coil whine from the motherboard.

I would rather have a PC that runs from the next room than a heavy water cooled PC again.

I dont expect everyones experiences to be the same but its something to consider.

I have never had a silent pc. My current rig has 24 120mm 1800-2200rpm fans in it not counting the gpus that have 3 each. I have a headset so it doesn't bug me at all.

What pump do you have ?
My DDC 3.25 not Quietest pump in the world at 2000RPM is inaudible to me, even when i was running it from a external power supply (loop testing).
But my fans are far from being quiet, even the PSU have that *grrrrrr* sound from the bearings:o

You don't need zero air in the loop to prevent noise from air in the loop, you just need areas of turbulence/restriction to be lower than where air collects. In a well thought out custom loop, it's not hard to remove all air from areas where it would be making noise.

Water also allows you to attach more cooling surface area to a part than an air cooled setup, and still move heat from the parts efficiently. More surface area means lower speed flow for the same total air flow, and thus less fan/air flow noise for the same cooling capacity.

Pumps can indeed be problematic, but there are quiet pumps and plenty of ways to further mitigate noise/vibration.

Nothing is going to be quieter than a fully passive setup, but beyond a certain thermal load, it's easier to make a quite water loop than air. However, most people are going to be reaching these sorts of thermal load without GPUs in the loop.

When I dial down the fans to the lowest speeds the loudest sound is the water splashing in the Swiftech bay reservoir. Kinda like a aquarium.

What fans do you have? Try either phantek, be-quiet or noctua.

Mine pump was an Aquastream XT, it was suspended by the tubing to reduce vibration rather than having a sponge underneath. Everyone says these are way more quiet than DDC, unless yours are something new.

I have the DDC 3.2 little pump in it's PWM form and it does make buzzing when there are air bubbles in the loop, but I just mounted it with some thick double sided foam tape to a solid wall of the case and it does not make any noise. I then have Noctua fans on my rads and the small tick from my power supply fan is the only thing I hear.

So if pump noise is your problem, then you could try a different pump, or maybe you just got a bad one, things like that do happen. I've had some super noisy MCP355 based pumps that ended up going in water-cooled server based builds then I have my current one which is whisper quiet from over 2 feet away form my open case.

Noctua fans are too expensive redface.gif
My pump is noisy at high speed but isn't a high pitch noise, is arround 100 - 120hz. Below 2500RPM is inaudible to me. I never tried the Aquastream series looks pretty good but the flow and pressure is low for the price IMO. I prefer a D5 for a silence setup

Dunno what kind of kool-aid the OP is drinking but my sig rig is quiet in the sense of pumps. I have a D5 strong running full power and I hear my Venturi fans @ 900rpm. Even louder when I'm gaming when they ramp up to 1800rpm. Only time I hear gargle is when my res is getting a little low. Top up and it's all good.
