I wonder if DLC will be free with valid Prime subscription.

In which case, they'll jack up subscription costs to make up the difference.

They almost need to, or make a higher tier model. As ATM for the current cost, you are just getting way to much. tongue.gif

Those costs are still passed off to the consumer under the guise of discounts. No thank you.

Though considering they are giving you free 2 day shipping on nearly everything, the budget for their Prime TV/Movies side is pretty small. As the Shipping is really what you are paying for, and really has saved so more money than I've payed into for it. Really if anything with Prime you are paying for the shipping, and they are just tossing Prime Video/Music/Books in for free. Prime Music is actually pretty nice, I use it all the time.

The Kindles are actually pretty decent, doesn't seem like you have used one. Lack of google play sucks, but it runs full blown android. The HDX Tablets were always very high quality.

Their Fire TV devices are the best in the business, for one reason. Sideloading apps. I have the Roku (the new quadcore stick), mainly because charter only makes the app that turns it into a cable box only for Roku. It works great, but kinda blows when It comes to my Local Media. No Sideloading Kodi means no great way to watch my local media. Forced to use stuff like Plex (which I would rather only use for streaming out of my network).

I have both the Fire TV Sticks and a 4k fire tv box. They just work. And the new quad core stick coming out (which I already preordered) will solve the problems of the older slower dual core stick. The Interface is the best of all devices, and has the best Prime Interface on any device. The Netflix interface is the same as every other streaming device, and so is most other apps. It really is the best devices Amazon has to offer, and the best way to stream content. Forget Chromecast and other jank devices, The Fire TV devices are the ones to get. The fact it runs Android alone makes it worth it.

The Fire Phone was a joke from the start, just like Ubuntu Phone.

Amazon is also doing great stuff in terms of home automation with Alexa. I can see some big things in the future for that product.

E-ink kindles are fine, but the Kindle Fires are pretty bad. I've had the Kindle 2, Keyboard, Touch, Paperwhite and Paperwhite 2, as well as the first Fire. I now read mainly on my iPhone in the Kindle app. I think the Kindle 1 and 2 were very well made and high quality, but the later models started to feel cheap. The Voyage might be a return to the 1 and 2, but I just can't justify buying a new Kindle when the iPhone is so much more convenient (and supports audible synchronization).

The FireTV stick might be good, but hte wifi reception on it sucks. I stopped using it after a week because it would keep cutting out and needing to buffer. I keep going back to the Chromecast, which really does JustWork, and it is easy to use between me and my roommate and people who have android and iOS devices. I am looking forward to the 4k Chromecast that should be coming soon.

I used to subscribe to Prime Fresh, which was pretty effective as a delivery services but was somewhat lacking in terms of grocery quality. For how expensive it is, I would have assumed it would provide more upmarket quality stuff. I now use Google Express instead.

Anyway - - I'm not hating on Amazon. I pay for Prime because of shipping ,and the extra benefits are nice. I'm looking forward to Top Gear. But I don't assume anything they do will succesful, they've made some bad stuff along the way.

I had a subscription as well, but cancelled when Amazon found other means to make up for the discounts they were giving. On certain items I purchase, they were jacking MSRP.

Long story short: a business does not give discounts without a catch.

The only one of their "games" that doesn't seem to be an excuse to subliminally advertise their Twitch.tv streaming service is their sandbox MMO.

I'm not buying in at all. My thoughts are these games aren't created because of a passionate team of game-loving devs, they're projects driven by Amazon to push their Twitch.tv streaming service and other Amazon services.

I would love to be wrong though. Fun games are seemingly few and far between these days.

From the Breakaway description
Quote:
Breakaway is made by streamers, for streamers. Taunt every interception, celebrate every kill, and highlight your dominance with instant replays.

I would say this game is made for Twitch since they are marketing it for streamers. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just has a specific market in mind.

Those games sound worse than the 50 odd moba clones that seem to appear on Steam every other week (hyperbole included). Only reason they will actually acheive any thing is if they're paying known streamers to stream it.

Their core business is amazing, but when they branch out they have about as many misses as hits

Agreed.
