New monitor help

Thread Starter
Just as the title says Im looking for a new monitor for photoshop, illustator, and gaming. I do digital art and game so i need a new monitor with good colors and good refresh rate/responce time. I currently use a 1280x1024 monitor from dell and i think its time for an upgrade, since there are darker parts of the monitor becoming visible.

Recently had the pleasure of owning 3 differing monitors at the same time.

As an all rounder I reckon the Dell U2515H (IPS 1440P 60Hz 6/8ms) is sweet. Colors are great, this was me comparing with an Eizo FG2421 (VA 1080P 120Hz 1ms) and an Asus MG279Q (IPS 1440P 144Hz 4ms). It really lives up to the Ultrasharp name, as it's 25" @ 1440P the PPI is high, I used default Win 7/10 GUI scaling and didn't find text to small. The display for image quality is just so crisp and clear, seeing is believing. In games the higher PPI is like FOC AA (in a way). The 60Hz 8ms is not an issue for most games IMO, I never used the 6ms option in OSD, only for fast paced FPS games did I find the 60Hz was not as fluid as the Eizo or Asus screen. The stand is fantastic of the Dell, good looking, robust and good range of adjustment. The touch sensitive OSD controls worked well on my Dell but there are reports of them not being as responsive for some owners.

The Asus MG279Q is not as spot on for colors out of the box IMO as the Dell or Eizo. Some fiddly around with OSD got it as I wanted, planning to get it calibrated as now keeping it. The OSD is nice, plenty of options, more than I expected for a gaming screen. FreeSync is sweet, the rig in your sig has RX 480 so I'm assuming monitor will be used on that, if so you'll like the feature IMO. FreeSync range is 35-90Hz on the MG279Q even though it's a 144Hz panel, it isn't an issue IMO as you'll need hefty GPU to gain 90+ FPS in demanding games, so the 35-90Hz range is fine for most GPU owners IMO. Stand is good on this as well, has even more height range than Dell, which I did like plus does portrait like the Dell.

The Eizo I did luv and was hard to part with, as discontinued I won't do the the blurb on it.

Thanks for the options. I think ill go with the Dell since it has slimer bezels and better colors. I dont think the 6-8 ms will be an issue since i read somewhere the monitor i have now has if i remember correctly 30ms and im fine with that.

Edit: And its a little cheaper

No worries smile.gif. TFTCentral classed the Dell as Class 1 for processing lag (IIRC lower lag than my Eizo). TFTCentral has all 3 monitors reviewed on their site so check them out wink.gif .

I'll be honest if the Dell had Freesync or just a little higher refresh rate of say 75 or 90 I would have kept that. As the quality of image really is out of the world IMO. Again very hard not to recommend it IMO. Yeah, I found it extremely good value on price. Simple modern design really makes it look so "swish".
