Quick review of BenQ Zowie XL2735 Monitor - Page 4

Are you serious?

Can you take a picture of test ufo alien invasion full screen (Pursuit camera) if possible?

Benq actually reverted the code to the XL2720Z's code?
Incredible....

test:

What is the highest Vertical Total before you go out of range with a black screen? 1825?

Yep, 1825. Eveything higher was out of range.

So the only thing missing from this monitor is the 'Single Strobe' option for 60hz blur reduction.
It double strobes at 60hz, and 85hz frown.gif
Unless you guys know an option to enable it.

They basically applied the old Mstar firmware code to this monitor, but didn't include the Single Strobe override...

For me it's the coating and the gamma shift which kills it for me... Sadly I can't stand that shift, so no fun for me with this monitor. But besides that it's great!

Can you guys do me a favor?

Can you test 60hz refresh rate with a custom resolution, by changing the vertical total?
it's possible 1825 will go out of range at 60hz. So a lower value might be necessary.

First you need to test default 60hz so you can see what "double strobing" is like.
Then you need to increase the VT, but make sure the service menu is unlocked so you can see if AREA and INTENSITY values actually apply or not.

Service menu:

Power the monitor off (AC plugged in, do not unplug), hold button #4 (Menu) for 5 seconds + Power on, then release.

Factory menu is button 3+4 for 5 seconds+power on (factory menu is the blue menu on the first page, service menu is the black one).

On the XL2720Z, the max VT was 1502, but 60hz was limited to VT 1350, while funny enough, 61hz worked at VT 1502 (Masterotaku found this stuff out).

It's possible "single strobe" could be forcibly enabled at 60hz, but the strobe adjustments (Intensity and area) would be frozen at a fixed value, regardless of what they were set to in the service menu.

If 60hz is too hard, try 85hz and test that first.
(2560x1440, 85hz, horizontal total 2720, default VT=1499, up to 1825)

See if it's single strobing at 85hz BUT with custom intensity and area adjustments not working.

First test VT 1499 (default)--monitor should double strobe.
Then increase the VT--monitor MIGHT single strobe but with bizarre Area/Intensity presets that ignore what you actually set.

On the XL2720Z, the same thing would happen, but enabling Single Strobe would "fix" everything and adjustments would work again.

I dont know if its just me, the clarity when swapping to the new hacked mode is definitely visible and the crosstalk is more uniform, but I feel like the eyestrain is giving me a massive headache. Did you notice that at all hammer?
theJSM: would you have enough eyestrain endurance to test the thing I wrote about 60hz and 85hz?

I might consider buying this monitor just as an XL2720Z backup if 60hz and 85hz will SINGLE STROBE *WITH* intensity and area adjustments *WITH* the Vertical total tweak (which may be lower than 1825 at 60hz, maybe not).

If it DOES single strobe (you will tell by the flicker and smoothness) at 60hz but Area and Intensity no longer work at all to change anything, I won't buy this monitor unless Benq releases a Single Strobe override option. (remember without the VT change, it will double strobe frown.gif

Now you guys have me interested in this monitor again. I just ordered one for overnight tomorrow arrival.

Falk, you say this is a different/better panel than the one used in the 2730/20 and Rog Swift?
