Just has less system bloat (uses less memory and overall just more responsive).

Plus there are improvements made to windows that just are not in windows 7.

I could never go back. I just hope one day I can turn windows updates off, so I can update when i'm ready.

10 is simply the best windows yet, just only has a couple of draw backs that make it more annoying than unusable.

Set your internet connection to Metered... No more updates. Turn off the updates at the same time for extra measure.

That's how you stop it. Enjoy.

I'm usually highly skeptical of claims of increased stability with Windows 10 (or whatever), because every version of Windows released in the last 15+ years, once patched, should be almost perfectly stable. If someone had stability issues in Windows 2k, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, or any of the server variants of these, 99% of the time it was user error.

I also don't really remember getting a BSoD on 7 either (besides OC'ing), but i definitely used to get more crashes in games, lockups, etc. You can be skeptical all you want, that's been my experience, and I'm not the only one.

Not sure why you're skeptical of my claims (if you are?), but chose to ignore the posts insinuating Win 10 to be one of the most unstable nightmares ever..

If I chose to not lock my car, who are you to force me to lock it?

Soon I will be running a few un-updated SP1 Win7 machines with no anti-virus.

Sounds like a blast.

That candy crush keeps getting reinstalled on those who care enough to uninstall it is weird. Maybe it's a contract thing. More likely than some higher up at ms being all maniacal about it.
Maybe Balmer left an unhinged protege or two.

Pretty sure that new control panel is for newbies so they don't accidentally mess with the registry or device manager or disc registry or command prompts.
If you can handle the complicated stuff, this simple stuff shouldn't be too bad.
The new one is also nice for quick access, like when I turn on cellular data on my $11 a month tracfone plan. Takes the same amount of time as switching over 2 screens in android.
Also does some stuff the old one can't.

Newbies wont even bother to open CP... rolleyes.gif And its really bad. I just dont like this ping-pong game when im looking for a stuff that was in the CP now its in that "modern" junk thingy, then when i find it there at some point it throws back me to the CP(i dont remember what qwas it but it happened). This half here half there line-up is just unusable. As for quick access most cellular modules come with a control software that just sits in the notification area so you can access it quickly...

Newbies have no idea what the control panel is and won't touch any of those settings out of fear they will break Windows.

What M$py have created is far worse than that Metrosexual nonsense they tried to implement in Win 8.x.

It is irritating that it switches. I've noticed that the old control panel isn't getting updated with the new stuff so that should help some of the searching if you don't want to ask Cortana. (I don't either even though it works). Maybe I just got accustomed to the stuff in the notification area control panel since it matches the one on my w10m phone.
Hate to say it but the dual control panel seems like the best compromise between keeping those used to using the old one happy and transitioning to a modern gui experience that spans a wide variety of devices. It's not perfect, but a compromise. Maybe someday they'll be able to merge gpu and peripheral control panels into the modern one and have the higher level os manipulations available in the tree of options with a matching look and have a "control panel classic" look option, but it not being there yet is not a deal breaker for me. The improvements I got for free are still worth it to me.

It wasn't long ago Linux only had around 1 of the percent desktop market share, nowadays it has a steady +2 percent market share.
And still growing.

There must be room for more Desktop OS maker.
Microsoft have showed in two Windows versions in a row, that they are not up to the task to supply the world a proper OS.
Linux is still built on obsolete routines and praxis.
Apple is good only... for some other people...

As I mentioned, I'm skeptical of any and all claims that any patched version of Windows derived from NT is appreciably more or less stable than any other, in and of itself. In virtually every case, the instability can be traced back to the user or administrator who has failed to configure something properly.

I don't get crashes while running stable software, on stable hardware, with stable drivers, on any of them. That includes Windows 10.

Apple and Microsoft aren't making OSes, they are trying to make entire computing experiences. Problem with adopting new OSes is compatibility, people are more or less forced to use what they use because the software they know doesn't work elsewhere without major hurdles.

Windows Phone could have carved a LOT larger marketshare if it wasn't for Microsoft being hostile to just about every software organization around them and locking down the mobile OS from competing software. They realize their mistake now by trying to garner more support from the Open Source space and trying to make UWP open to everyone. But now they have to shake off the reputation of being untrustworthy and failing to do so. Edge survives for now since they replace IE and have ad blocking, but they're going to have to try harder to stop the bleeding.
