I3-2120 with GTX 1060 - Page 3

First of all, why to look for used model? Is it cause it will be cheaper or theres no more brand new of them?I think i could still find a new gtx 980 or 970 as i remember seeing those models in a flyer several days before. Got the flyer from a shop nearby my house. Not sure though. Do you feel those models are better option? Something like bang for the buck? thank you. thumb.gif

Get a cheap Z68 motherboard, and 2500k/2550k/2600k, and overclock out of it.

or Upgrade entire system to i5/i7 skylake/kabylake with DDR4

i3 2120 in Modern games bound will be very likely cpu bottlenecking. Your overall minimum framerates will make games stutter a lot probably most of the time, even though you can reach a High FPS with GTX 1060 at some point..

Under 30FPS, or Under 45 FPS, I quickly can notice it start to stuttering when moving camera. It's not as fluid as +50-60FPS or so.

My daughters i3-4130 bottlenecked her 970 quite noticeably in BF1. Amazon just dropped off an i5-4570 I'll be installing in her rig Monday.

The reason I specifically mentioned used for those other cards is that they're extremely similar performance wise to the GTX 1060, but at least in the US, their new prices are notably higher than the GTX 1060, making them a poor value. The used market for them is much more reasonable though. Quite a few people seem to be selling them to upgrade to the GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 cards. I was recently able to pick up a GTX 970 SSC for $180, which is much more reasonable than paying $250-$300 for the same card new. For comparison, an EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SC sells for $260 new. The GTX 1060 is a slightly faster card, but the difference is fairly minimal, & I was able to save $80 vs. buying a new card.

I'm not sure what the used market is like there, but I would say if you can find one of those cards around rm700, it would be worth buying over a GTX 1060 for rm1000.

Ok, i get it. So, can i conclude that the best cards that i can get for the budget i have is the GTX970 and GTX 1060 right?N how long do u feel i can play games with maxed out settings with these cards? Im kinda worried that newer games will require better cards very soon enough. I will go with the 970 if i could get it around rm 700 range. If not, i will just stick with the GTX1060. smile.gif

If he doesn't mind buying new then why not? The 1060 is like 15-20 faster so I wouldn't call that "slightly faster". Even at 1080p the extra VRAM can come in handy.
