If youre planning to build it next year, newer chips from both companies: Kaby Lake from Intel and Zen from AMD might be on the market already so I'd wait until you have the money in your pocket ready to go to pick whats best at that time.

Nothing wrong with doing research early, but there's nothing to research yet as they're not out and tested tongue.gif

It would also help if you stated what components you have already and are re-using and what the usage for the rig is, I guess youre still going to be using the RX480 and your PSU at least though?

I also believe that Kaby lake is using a new 200 series chipset, so there will be new mobos out at that time which again no one knows anything about yet.

One thing I would suggest is to go for faster RAM at least DDR4 3000 at this point with an Intel rig, as it shows some minor improvements in some situations an isnt all that much more expensive, Id also suggest that you dont need 7 fans to have a good cooling set up generally 2 or 3 in and one out is fine for most set ups There's also better options then the Corsair fans IMO, although theyre not too bad. Cougars, Phanteks are a bit cheaper on Newegg for example, although you dont get the LED's.

oh ya i forgot to add the stuff im keeping sorry about that here is the list
850w
RX 480
120gb ssd
1tb hdd
blue ray drive

well the case can support up to 3 120/140mm fans in the front 3 120mm fans on top or 2 140mm on top and 1 140mm for the back thats why i picked 6 af 140 to replace the fans that come with it and the sp120 is for my heatsink plus i do love the led lighting of the fans i wanted to get the new corsair fans but the AF and SP out perform the new SP and HD series fans plus they were way to much lol so hey its all good tongue.gif

for ram i did pick ddr4 2400 b/c i did watch alot of ppl compare ram from 2166 to 3200 and barelly any proformance boost in games so thats why i picked the 2400 b/c i new going up from here would be waste of money when playing video games

Well you can get faster RAM for almost the same price almost so why not?

It doesnt generally make much difference a lot of the time, but I know that with DDR3 it makes a difference going from say 1600mhz to 2133 in situations where the rig is CPU limited. Like Novigrad in Witcher 3 for example or in pretty much any MMO.

heres an example on a 6500 in some situations that are hard on the CPU, theyve gone out of the way to look for these situations where it matters, and its not game breaking but for 5 dollars more Id just get the faster memory.

If youre only playing single player Doom or something it probably wont make much difference, true.

Just because you have 6 fan slots doesn't mean its optimal to use them for airflow. Using 6 fans will just create more noise for little benefit, but hey if its about the full o' fans LED bling for you then its your rig and money, go for it smile.gif

I'd say for Skylake 3200 is about the sweet spot price wise, the kit you picked looks good to me.

Bear in mind though, that Kaby Lake might have an improved memory controller and so be able to operate faster then Skylake, and prices could maybe go down by that time for RAM. We also have no idea what Zen will be like on memory, other then it will use DDR4.

You have a good PSU, and your storage looks just fine to me. So now its a matter of waiting and seeing what's out when you are ready to buy.

That G.SKILL RAM you selected would be fine, though of course I'd suggest going over prices again when you're actually ready to buy. As for fans, the Phanteks models are better fans, & are available with red LEDs as well, but it will end up costing a bit more. Whether it's worth it is up to you.

Also, when you're getting ready to buy, remember to keep an eye on pcpartpicker.com. I lucked out & got my case for $40 off because I saw it on sale before I was originally planning to buy it.
