Now if it was only a $20 difference then yeah I would go with the rx 480 but good luck finding an rx 480 for $190. You would have an easier time finding an r9 290X for that price.
here

if you plan playing at 1440 or higher resolution a r9 290x is a better choice

In that link the rx 480 is still $30 more. I don't know if it is worth it.... But Thank you! I am going with that now.

I am including that discount code. I can get an r9 290 for 170 and I can get an rx 480 with the code for 198 198-170=28

if you prefer the lower power consumption the rx 480 will be a good choice, only its 32ROPs and memory BW will hold back performance at 1440-4k in some games

I am well aware. Thank you for mentioning that though. I was just telling the person that if in the future they wanted 1440 or 4k the only logical thing to do would be to go for the 980 ti or the 1070 or the AMD vega equivalent whenever that comes out. But this person is going to have this as their first PC and I don't think a video card upgrade in 2 or so years is out of the question. But for now this will amply at 1080P which is the only resolution I personally suggest for any card below a 980 TI. I know it can be done even with a 390X which is yet another card we could go with if the budget changes soon. But as of right now I don't think much if any 1440P gaming will be done in the near future.
