If Google pulls off that list, then the Pixel and Pixel XL will be worth every penny. Otherwise, it's just Google trying to be Apple and coming up short.
Apple gets their customers through clever marketing, but they are able to retain those customers by building a solid, easy to use product. Google has some pretty decent advertising chops, but they do need to work on the 2nd half of my statement.
As for everyone that is looking at this phone's specs, please just stop. That's not the point of the Pixel. The point is to create a premium stock(ish) Android experience that is closely controlled by Google in both hardware and software. This is the same approach that Apple takes, and it has been working for them for years.
The way I see it is Pixel does not have hardware advantages over any other Android phone. A Galaxy phone like S7 simply offers more. Stuff like Wireless charging, IP68, better screen for than 5" model and other small things that come with Samsung hone. The idea behind Google "Nexus" was fast updates but that is not the case really for Nexus phone. They are not getting 7.1 until 2017. Now why wait for Google phone instead of getting Galaxy S months before. Android OS version going from 6 to 7 is really not that big of deal. The changes that get made don't effect many people. Also if S7 is too much you can buy sub $400 Android phones. Now why buy an iPhone for same price? Why is it OK for Apple to charge same as Pixel and not OK for Google to do the same thing? Well simple. iOS, App Store, Experience. No matter what you do you can only get those with iPhone. You have no other choice.
You know when you got your Note 4 it came with 805 while phones of that year had 801? 821 in Pixel is not even a improvement. You are getting nothing. Even I that loves Android more and where to be given $650 to buy either iPhone or Pixel would get iPhone without even thinking about it. In 6 months the iPhone 7 will still be the best iPhone and still cost $650 and still have crazy resale value. The Pixel will get washed buy the likes of S8 and other Android phones. Its actually nice and reason that you get a iPhone these day. You know that you have the best for at least 1 year.
