[The Verge] Pixel ‘phone by Google’ announced - Page 10

To all of you who think you are going to find a better spec'd phone for less money... mind citing a few examples?

The ZTE Axon 7, OnePlus 3 and LeEco Le 2s have a SnapDragon 820. This has a SnapDragon 821 which is about 10% faster.

Except it's still a gray Chinese import with zero support.

Yet is has a 1080p and good luck getting all the right band support for your carrier.

Seems alot of people are just looking at the price and making a judgement for that. Seems like no one is talking about how low the touch latency is on the pixel phones, going to also say it might be the lowest on any phone. No one knows what panel is being used on the pixel phones, if it solves the issue people had while using the s7/note 7 in VR mode thats a huge plus.

You also get 24/7 google support and if anyone has ever dealt with google support you would know how amazing that is, I would pay if this was a feature. Google's HDR+ is also a huge selling point weather you agree or not it does wonders. Look at the 6p, still one of the best camera's on a smartphone and it lacks OIS.

Yes the price is high but google has to make up for R&D and advertising. Rumors are Google wants to start supplying their own silicon for the pixel phones, if this is true we can see software updates more than just 2 years.

Look up 820 and 821. This 821 is clocked same as 820 found in OPO. Can you explain that.

The clocks are defined by the manufacturer not qualcomm. Maybe Google/HTC though the 820 was fast enough and just wanted better sustained performance or/and lower heat from the 821 than the 10% increase in burst performance? This is assuming the 821 is slightly more efficient than the 820, lower voltage/power for the same clocks.

We will see how it performance once it comes out. Soon we will get real upgrade in form of 830 10nm.

Anyone remember the M9? Seems HTC is keen on pissing Apple off.

As far as I can find soon is maybe(probably if we are very optimistic) by the end of 2017.

This actually may be a good competitor on paper to the iphone but only if google does a few things well. I really don't see many people switching.
  • The screen better have a near perfect sRGB mode. All the flagship phones are now calibrated and the iphone is done extremely well. This one better have it for the price
  • The camera should be the best or very close. According to the dxomark review it might be there in HDR+ mode.
  • The software better be as smooth as an iphone. optimized android?
  • The support needs to be excellent and I don't see how the on phone support will be as good as walking into an apple store
