Rumored Dell IPS 144hz Gamer?

Thread Starter
Has anyone heard rumors about Dell releasing an IPS 144hz gaming monitor that would compete directly with the ASUS ROG or Acer Predator? I thought I caught a snippet somewhere but I haven't been able to locate it.

I'm seriously considering getting the Dell S2417DG at Christmas time but if there's any chance of a new Dell IPS gamer, I would wait.

Thanks
I've heard nothing. Considering the S2417DG is around $500 and has no competition, it should be a good investment. I haven't heard of any other 24" 1440p high refresh rate monitors either and I do try and keep an eye out for this kind of news.

IPS isnt worth it. I switched from an Acer XB270HU to a Dell S2417DG and am happy with the change. IPS is hardly any better than TN these days.

Thanks guys...
Like I said, it was just a snippet, probably from a Vlog someplace. Just another unsubstantiated rumor.

I don't really understand why Dell hasn't jumped on that bandwagon. With Dell's leg up on marketing and QC, it might be a nice alternative to the current selections from ASUS and Acer. I don't see it undercutting the S2417DG because the S24 it looks like it's carving out a nice piece of the 24" market. However it might hurt the S2716DG because 27" owners are looking for a more general purpose monitor.

I'm really looking forward to Black Friday.

I wager Dell sees those AUO AHVA panels and deems they are too problematic. If they started making 144 Hz IPS monitors and tightened up QC standards they might have supply issues? And if they don't tighten up on them compared to Acer and ASUS, it'd make them look bad considering their monitor reputation is far better than Acer and ASUS. This is all conjecture though.

I agree with MistaSparkul. I have an XB270HU, and if I can go back in time I would have gotten the PG278Q instead. Or the Eizo Foris FG2421 even. What did I spend the extra $200 for? IPS glow and viewing angles I don't benefit from. Maybe gamma shift is a very minor issue head-on with the 27" TN monitors, I've heard some conflicting reports on this, but it's not as bad as the IPS glow of this XB270HU, I guarantee it.

I might actually try one of them Samsung 1080p 144 Hz VA monitors next year. Depends on what their blur reduction implementation is like.

"A Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" so I'll wait for the price drop on the S2417DG. However, I'm concerned about the 1440P on a 23.8" and having to scale. But what I've read from people that have the S2417DG, scaling doesn't seem to be a problem.

Hopefully we'll see what Samsung has to offer before much longer, because I would rather stay at 1080P.

Maybe they value being able to put out a quality product and as of now those IPS panels just have too many issues.

IPS is completely overrated. In fact it's my least favorite LCD type. The 24" Dell TN is quite impressive.

Since I know that you have experienced all screen types- what is your favourite apart from OLED because I think this is obvious biggrin.gif I so far love IPS but I have to yet try VA panel.

I've followed the S2417DG thread and read your comments about the Dell. Have you found any downside to scaling from 1440P to 1080P?
