It's our first look at the final release code for Gears of War 4, here analysed running on both Xbox One and PC. We'll have more on the campaign soon, plus an in-depth look at the PC settings - but for now, this should whet your appetite for what this spectacular-looking title offers as we go in-depth on multiplayer and Horde mode on both PC and Xbox One.

PC testing at 6:18.

They test Multiplayer and Horde mode on PC using a GTX 970 at 1080p and a GTX 980 Ti at 1440p, both running at 60 fps on Ultra settings in these modes.

This appears to be one of the best UWP ports made to date, alongside Killer Instinct and Halo 5.

Here is Gamers Nexus benchmark:

Performance is where i expected from a Nvidia sponsored title. Though, the game is playable on all hardware with tweaks to settings where needed, 470 loosing to 960 is pretty abysmal.

Will see if AMD and/or Coalition team bring drivers/patches to address the massive performance differences between the cards. Currently, AMD's performance looks similar to initial Doom OpenGL's numbers, until they released another driver that boosted their performance significantly.

Definitely an Unreal game, some things never change..

At least i can get 60fps at Ultra either way, but Fury X losing to a 970 is a bit of a joke (badly losing at that).. Hopefully a patch is on the way for AMD cards, CF/SLI too. I also hope someone benches split screen performance as i plan to play this with my brother. thumb.gif

AMD cards aside (performance is still good, just not next to lower tier NV cards), this is easily the best UWP title and so far is up there with one of the best PC releases in the last few years, and honestly the amount of fetures/options like dynamic res and split-screen is fantastic. I'm definitely going to support them, good job Coalition. biggrin.gif

One thing that needs to be tested is performance off of an HDD (this game is 80GB after all), AK worked fine on SSD's but the real problems stemmed from data streaming off HDD's, hopefully there's none of that nonsense at launch.

Unreal Engine 4 was nVidia biased from the beginning. Nothing new here... But it is a shame that exactly those games are the ones that end up releasing as a stable game. AMD is once again put in a bad light. GTX 970 beating a Fury X is extremely crazy, and no one can fault the 4GB of HBM here, since the GTX 970 has 3.5GB.

Yes I really have to ask the following... Did anyone check for graphical parity between AMD and nVidia? No? Ugh...

Comparable performance from both camps. Game scales up to 6 threads.

Hot fix driver available for this game:

Furyx faster than 980ti in 4k. wait this dx12 game doesn't remove cpu overhead on 1080p for furyx ? what the hell. guess this will be called an optimized game now tongue.gif

i guess my prediction was true. thumb.gif

As a DX12 game, it is only a step ahead of Gears of War Ultimate Edition by not being totally broken on launch day. The Coalition and Nixxes have disappointed me as they used DX12 as a marketing tool, no real DX12 work is present in their recent titles.

More interested what will DICE deliver with BF1 and Firaxis with Civ VI.
