Looking to get a PS4 (skepticism about ps4 PRO)

Hey all. looking to get my first PS4. I have a gaming pc but most of my friends have ps4 so it would be nice to game with them all. When slim/pro were announced, i planned to wait for the Pro in November because it's just "better". But the more i think about it the more vague and weird the whole thing is to me.
What's weird about the PS4 pro is how vague the info is. There is no concrete info on what's actually better. No clear technical specs or info. All they showed was a few 2017 games running in hi res. But they dont say what resolution games will run on PS4 PRO, didnt show and side by sides with the same game running on a Slim, perhaps the difference would be so small that it would be embarassing?
It's impossible for the Pro to actually render in 4K, so what is it actually doing? They don't disclose which the exact "higher resolution" these select games will have. So are they just being upscaled better than TVs can? My friend hooked up his Slim to my 4k TV which already upscales and it looked really good to me.
The other selling point is HDR. Real HDR requires really high end 4K TVs. But Sony is implying that it will work on all TVs? If so, then is it real HDR? Or are they just bumping up contrast? And if all PS4s (even original) are getting the HDR patch, then that isnt a Pro exclusive feature then, right?
I am not trying to troll fans of Sony, I am just being a smart consumer and weighing the pros/cons. It just seems Sony is being sooo vague about all of this. The only REAL CONCRETE info I saw about the Pro is that it will be able to do Remote Play in 1080P, which is pretty cool. Everything else has just been fancy vague terms like "High Fidelity Experience" and " never before seen clarity when playing on 4k TV". Like what does that even mean?
What I learned with No Mans Sky this year is if companies are being really vague and not straightforward with product info, there is a chance they are trying to hide how lame their product actually is until after it comes out, afraid that people might not pre order or lose interest before release if they know all the info. Not saying this is like No Mans Sky situation, or even that the Pro WONT be good. Just being a skeptic consumer!
Thoughts?

Not that it matters to most, but I have a PS4 Original, and have a preorder for the PRO already, there are frame drops on the original that the Pro should eliminate (At least at 1080p)

I was due for a TV upgrade, so I purchased a 49" 4k Samsung with HDR. thumb.gif

The Upscalling will improve visuals to a degree as the resolution isn't true to a degree. Playing on a 4k TV with a system that doesn't display true 4k gaming is kind of an anomaly,

I wish I was more knowledgeable about the Upscalling, but I am sure someone will chime in about that.

What's weird about the PS4 pro is how vague the info is.

It's vague because all of the details aren't nailed down yet such is the way of consoles, they can't just decide on a chip, slap it in there and throw it in production and sel them. they have to test things so stuff like development and backwards compatibility aren't broken. You can bet your hind end that if i knew a even slightly better version was coming out i'd wait for that. Just look at the N64, games that require the expansion cartridge either don't run without or sacrifice some sort of features or graphics fidelity. if you have waited this long might as well get the Pro. However if it's like a $1000 USD for one then yeah forget it.

The Pro is twice as powerful compared to the OGPS4. Thats a fact. The rub, as you stated, is what exactly will be better? It is up to the devs to decide. There is a list of games that will utilitize the Pro's extra power. Sony has issued this list and i'm sure it'll continue to grow. For 1/3 more cost, you get twice the console performance. Once these Pro games are release we'll see exactly what is upgraded. Even with a 1080p display we should be seeing upgrades, whether they be extra effects, frames, etc. Gamers having 4k displays they may/will enjoy upscaled resolutions with possible extra effects/frames. These upgrades are in the hands of the devs, but Sony is pushing them to be implemented. You need an HDR compatible display to actually experience it. If you are cautious, wait till the Pro games come out and see what, if any, upgrades show up.

Anybody who will buy a PS4 now needs to buy a PS4 pro over slim.

PS4 Pro is just upscaled to 4K on 4K TVs / monitors @ 30 FPS. The native resolution is unknown for the upscaling, I'm assuming it will vary game-to-game.
I believe it will be 1080p / 60 fps for everything else, unless a game developer wants it differently.

Personally I just left the Sony camp after nearly 3 years with the PS4. I miss playing with some of my friends but ultimately PSN drove me away. (very slow download speeds, goes down more than it ever should and lacks dedicated servers)

I only pulled the trigger on trading it in last month because I got $235 for the console only and was paid cash otherwise I would have kept it. (screw you and your $100 in-store credit, GameStop tongue.gif)
The Pro will be a nice step up, but if you already have a decent PC I wouldn't purchase one unless you really want to play some exclusive titles. More and more exclusive console titles are coming to PC as well which pushed me to change back to PC.

Most of my friends have really crappy Macs that can only play starcraft 2 and heroes of the watch, so for other games I want to get PS4 to play with them. Otherwise id just stick to my pc biggrin.gif

That was sort of my situation, most of my friends have an old PC or nothing and just stick to consoles so I picked one up to play with them.
I had it for nearly 3 years and enjoyed it, I'm just really picky on games / features. I definitely got my moneys worth out of the system.

Fortunately my roommate has a PS4 so I can still play some exclusives on his system. tongue.gif

I'd either get a second hand PS4 on the cheap or the PS4 Pro.

Don't see a point in buying the slim.

Seeing as I am only going to play PS4 for a couple of games that my friends want to play like Battlefield 1, and a couple of console games I will want ot play like final fantasy 15, and the majority of gaming will be on my PC, maybe I should take a practical approach and save money with a slim lol
