6950X Overclocking Question

Thread Starter
I've had my 6950X for almost 2 weeks now but haven't even started to overclock it yet. Just earlier today I was going to but going about seemed a little different. When I set the XMP profile on my memory, the BCLK for the CPU didn't change, unlike my previous 5960X and 990X CPU's. Why is it this way with the 6950X, I kind of like it though reminds me of the LGA775 platform where you can isolate the memory frequency from the FSB. I just would like to know what its this way with the 6950X, any insight and info would greatly be appreciated!

For what it is worth, with the latest BIOS for my board I was able to use 3200Mhz XMP with no BCLK changes on my 5960X as well. To my understanding, the only reason BCLK changes were required for X99 was Intel did not at the time support above 2666 without BCLK increase. It appears that has changed.

If your Classified is anything like my Deluxe, you should be able to modify RAM speeds with BCLK, Ratio, and Multiplier.

Example:

BCLK: 100
Ratio: 100:133
Multiplier: x24
Final speed: 3200Mhz

Or

BCLK: 100
Ratio: 100:100
Multiplier: x32
Final speed: 3200Mhz

Or

BCLK: 125
Ratio: 100:100
Multiplier: x26
Final speed: 3250Mhz

I also heard that if the memory divider for the xmp profile of your RAM is supported natively by the memory controller on the CPU, then the BCLK won't be changed when XMP is enabled.
