Wow- that price is absurd for those specs. I hope that includes tax, but even then that's too high.

A similar spec'd unit from another company can be had for ~$2800 CAD. You didn't even get a 4K monitor. Please tell me it's a 1080p G-SYNC and not the standard version. Either way, a bit of a waste IMO.

I'm really not trying to antagonize you but I hate to see folks get ripped off.

I agree, Here is a MSI 17 inch with the same specs as the Alienware except a i7 6820HK for $2,100 US, don't know what it would cost for Canada
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154284

Edit: the 15.6 inch MSI with same specs is $1,699
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154348

this is even better
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233182

I had a Alienware/Dell laptop years ago and it was junk, never again.

I here you guys but i have a specific need for it (Graphics Amp) and yes thats incl tax.
I did get the Gsync monitor. I think Alienware have come a long way. My current one is almost 3 years old and still in absolutely perfect condition, working flawlessly. Ontop of that i got a 4 year warranty which adds 10% to the price.

The things i Needed :
15" monitor
GTX 1070 with sufficient cooling to not throttle at all
Graphics Amplifier (the Alienware PCI-E connection beats the Thunderbolt connection all day long)

Hence my choices.
The 1070 is actually somewhat insufficient for my monitor and so is a 1080 so i am waiting for Vega dual core card or the next gen Nvidia cards to be able to stick into the AMP which will be taken apart, and custom built into my desk with GPU watercooling.

Hence me getting an alienware. I know they cost more, but for me, it was more than worth it.
Build quality, lifespan and all in all an excellent package with support second to none (as this is actually a company laptop).

If the 1440p 17" does okay with temps, then I'm pretty sure I'll be buying one.

So my alineware arrived yesterday. Initial thoughts were .... DAMN THIS IS THE BIGGEST 15" IVE EVER SEEN. I did get a 15 and not a 17 right...(checks sticker, yip its a 15... DAMN.

No Jokes. Its big. Not thick, but very big for a 15". The previous gen, while 15% thicker, felt alot more compact. however a large part of that is due to the heatsinks sticking out the rear of the chassis. its more square than rectangular when the screen is closed.
When your working on it and the screen is up, its not bad at all. Doesnt feel huge but when its closed and you stand back and look at it.. DAMN haha.

Still busy setting up and have quite a bit of work to do over the next few days so will have to wait before getting really stuck in, but the time will come soon smile.gif
cant wait to test out the 1070 smile.gif

Yeah ... they are big. I'm getting the 17" in the next few weeks ...

BTW: there is a guy at Notebook Review Forums called "iUnlock" who was getting 90+ degrees on his CPU with the stock thermal paste ... he re pasted with Liquid Ultra and dropped his CPU temps by -30C ... hard to believe, but true. OCCT stress tests maxing in the mid 60's on CPU and GPU hanging in the 60's as well ... just ridiculous.

I'm going to re paste mine but not with metal ... just a quality paste ... everybody is unanimous on the fact that Dell's paste job is a complete joke and that properly pasted, the new cooling system on the Dell's is *super* good ...

(oh yeah, he's got his CPU overclocked to 4.5/4.6+ with CPU temps still in the 70's ... LMAO ...

Nice. Yeah i have Artic Silver Ceramique 2 to do mine with but that will wait a few days. I have only just opened her up an hour ago to swap my SSD with the HDD it comes with and the interior is gorgeous in person. Damn they did a good job.
All the connectors are easy to take off and wont break easily like on previous generations but yes, the interior is a masterpiece. Sad that they used toothpaste... what a waste.
Mine is all up and running and feels good. Im super happy smile.gif
