Hello from the UK

Thread Starter
Heya,

I've been reading a couple of threads recently to help with a new project I'm starting so thought I'd create an account to say hi. smile.gif

I'm a computer guy, been using them since 1980, used my entire students loan plus meager savings to buy my first PC in 1992 and did my first overclock shortly after when I figured out how to get my 486DX33 to run at the dizzy heights of 50MHz! biggrin.gif Can't say it was a 24/7 stable overclock as I promptly bricked it at the thought of not being able to replace it so it was swiftly returned to stock and remained there for half a dozen years until I had a job that paid enough that allowed me to replace it.

When that job finally came along it involved working in a fledgling PC store, where I've actually remained these past 18 years, so I guess you could say I like tinkering with PC hardware. thumb.gif Over the years I've had some not bad hardware under my desk, I used to have at least one new board and processor a year right up until the i7 came out and my lovely x58 board has just kinda stayed, never needed to replace it, hard to believe it's almost eight years old now. Over the years it's seen graphics cards come and go, drives and now finally the CPU has needed changed; thick end of £1000 for its modern equivalent doesn't seem good value compared to £70 for a six year old Xeon and kicking the can down the road a bit longer.

Anyway that's where I'm at, new home is being readied for the board and looking forward to sharing it with you guys.

Cheers thumb.gif

I love knowing old hardware which hasn't kicked the bucket can still be of use! I swapped a Intel Core2 Duo build that was 8 year old for my new i7. I'm loving the much improved speeds but I am proud of my previous workhorse and how much it could achieve for its spec! It is being remolded using linux to become my home plex server. My i7 is in my room and I don't have it on 24/7 cause I must sleep. Let us know what your plans are for your eldest child!

I started a thread, in the good old days and the computer listed below as I had was the first I bought, kept waiting for the price to go down as I always had computers at work in the air force.
don't forget to go tp RIGBUILDER at the top of the page and enter some of the rigs you had or have. would love to see or hear about them
