Graphics card not detected out of no where

Thread Starter
So I built my computer a couple years ago and never had an issue. I found out I was going to move so I decided make my computer more compact. So I bought a new case and motherboard. The motherboard I bought was used on ebay, I know I know, but I have a 4690k and didn't want to buy a new mobo and CPU when my CPU does everything I need just fine. So at that point my options for a mini itx that was LGA1150 and wasn't over $300 were slim. So I got it all together and worked great for a month and then I shipped it to my new location. When I shipped the computer I took the Graphics card out and bubble wrapped it separate, seemed like a good idea. Now I put it back together at my new location and everything works besides my graphics card. Device manager does not see it at all and if I try to install new drivers it says 'Device not detected'. I bought a GTX 1070 to see if that was the issue but no luck, same problem. Windows and Bios are up to date as far as I know.

Any help is very appreciated, Nick

System Specs:

GTX 780

I5 4690k

CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB

Rosewill Hive-750

GIGABYTE GA-Z87N-WIFI

SanDisk Ultra ii 480GB

WD Black 1TB

If you have integrated graphics, make sure it's set to pcie graphics in the UEFI and your display connector is plugged into the GPU (not the motherboard).

Next Id try a different pcie slot, then PSU. If nothing does the trick, Id suspect the motherboard.

Yes I have both the card all the way in the slot and the two power connectors are all the way in. I know it gets power because the card has small led light next to the plugs to show its getting power.

As I said I know the card is getting power because of the leds. I have gone over my bios and I have the pcie enabled. If I plug my monitor into the card instead of the motherboard the monitor gets no input signal. Also I only have one pcie slot as this is a mini itx board.

Thank you for the reply , Nick

Its getting power, good, but having enough power to drive an led off of the GPU power connectors (supposing its not mobo power driving the leds) is of course in no way indicative of a fully functional PSU. smile.gif

Do you think everything else would work fine if that were the case? Is there a way to test this without another psu? I can get one in a few days from a friend for testing if need be.

I could run to the store tomorrow and give that a shot I guess. Is that a common thing to happen? I've reinstalled the card many times along with the other 1070. I would think that would clear it out but i may give that a shot for good measure along with looking into the slot with a flash light.

My thinking is that dust or other particles potentially got in the slot and is blocking proper connection of the pins. It is worth a shot, at least IMO. If it doesn't work, at least you will have a can of air for the future cleaning of your computer.

When you took the card out to ship the computer, particles from the packaging might have landed in the slot.

I see what you mean. I'll go out to the store, hope for the best, and report back.
