I recently noticed that my ram is currently on a 1:5 ratio so it running 1333

I have 4 sticks of 4gb 1600. Would it be alright to put it on a 1:1?

I was wondering why it was always lower it just didnt click

Motherboard BIOSs usually default to "safe" memory speeds and timings. (Less nOObs calling the help desk with problems that way!)

When you change memory speed you usually have to change timings to.

You can check the "default" timings for various speeds that are programmed into you memory by looking at the SPD tab in CPU-Z
The BIOS should use the appropriate ones.

OK I enabled the xmp 1.3 profile, its now running at 1600

However looking on cpuz the second xms3 kit I bought isn't really the same as the first kit, I opted for the cas11 version of the xms3 1600 (£5 cheaper)

slots 1 and 3 have pc3-12800k and slots 2 and 4 have pc3-10700

Both run at 800mhz, both are cas11 and both have the same xmp profile

whats the deal, did corsair test the 10700 to make sure it was stable at 800mhz?

I think pc3-10700 means the ram is designed to operate at 1333MHZ.
Normally all 1333 ram are easily overclocked to 1600MHZ and you can do 1866+MHZ if your good at setting the timing

Then what's different? Screen shots of the CPU-Z SPD tables would help.

You can be assured that Corsair (and every other memory manufacturer) tests each and every stick they make.
They don't make 1066, 1333, 1600, etc. memory. The make the memory and then test each stick to see how fast it is then they sell it with that spec. It's called "binning".

As for the speed and timings at which your memory is running:
When memory settings (speed or timing) are set to their defaults in the BIOS, at boot the BIOS reads the SPD settings for the stick in the slot closest to the memory controller (almost always slot 1) and applies those settings to all the memory sticks.

If you manually set the speed in the BIOS, then the BIOS reads and sets the appropriate timings (for that speed) from the SPD table on stick 1.

If you set XMP, then the BIOS uses the XMP SPD setting from stick 1.

If you manually set both the speed and all the timings you can run the memory at any speed and timings for which it is stable. Often that's faster (sometimes a lot faster) then whatever is programmed into any of the SPD tables - it's called overclocking!.

Be aware that CPU-Z only reads the first 4 or 5 timings.
Some motherboard BIOSs don't let you change the speed or timings (locked BIOS)
Some motherboard BIOSs only let you change the speed (and use the default timings for that speed).
Some motherboard BIOSs only let you change the speed and some timings (and use the default timings for the other timings).
Some motherboard BIOSs only let you change the speed and all the timings (there are over 20).- that's real overclocking

It's stretching the point, but both will run at 1600 MHZ CAS 11 so you got what you paid for., just that the 667 may not overclock as far.

Just out of curiosity were all the sticks in original, unopened packaging?

You want to clock higher with ram? Well I can give you a few set of ram timings to try out and give you a guide in overclocking them
post #10 of 12
I never understood the ratio. CPU-Z says mine is 1:9. I have 2400 Mhz trident X ram, so..Is there something wrong with it not being 1:1?
