[UG] Germany Wants To Ban Internal Combustion Engine Cars By 2030 - Page 12

Yeah let make people even more dependent of the power grid that is already overloaded.

You guys need to understand something. To produce electricity we pollute a lot.

Nuclear waste, pollution from coal, co2 produced and ecosystem destroyed from land flooded by hydroelectric dams, chemical used for solar panel, waste from batteries, lithium mining pollution etc

I think the future will resolve with another alternative than electricity for cars.

Because otherwise people will continue to buy internal combustion cars in other countries and bring them back to germany.
Also there may be some interesting law bypasses created later.

You probably won't be able to register any new ICE cars bought in 2030 or later. So I don't think you'll get around it unless you have dual citizenship in a country that still allows new ICE cars by then.

And Germany most likely be the only country that's banning ICE cars by then. as Norway already has a diesel/gasoline phase out planned for 2025 and other countries like Sweden, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Switzerland are also planning a phase out as soon as 2030.

So, I guess your best best if you still want an ICE by then is buying used.

So you want to keep using polluting cars just because you want to be able to drive ten hours straight a couple times a year? Color me baffled.

Also, Germany's mix isn't 95% nuclear. They had something like 25% before Fukushima and halved it shortly after, planning on shutting all of them down in the coming years. Coal is still huge there but the amount of installed renewables dwarfs it already and the new facilities installed every single year is just insane.

Thing is, renewables employ a lot of highly skilled workers and helps the enviroment. I just don't get all this hate, really.

Using an internal combustion car the way we wanted is being entitled?

Most W-European countries aren't really suffering from overloaded power grid, so...?

Also, the production of gasoline and diesel is hardly a clean process, most of the downsides of electricity production you mentioned are much cleaner.

A great thing about gasoline powered car is that you can drive it when the power is out.

If there's a natural disaster, you will be more dead with an electric car.

Why is that? Car runs out of gas and you need to refill from a electric pump. GG.

Most electric comes from coal anyway.

Is burning coal for electric cleaner than burning gasoline?

It's not so much the material being consumed but how it's used. Having the energy conversion occur in a highly efficient and centralised plant is roughly 60% more efficient per car than the most efficient engine today - and that's accounting for transport loss via the grid.

Harmful bi-products of the conversion are also captured and stored/re-purposed instead of released directly into the atmosphere. Catalytic converters are great but pale in comparison to the myriad of technologies modern power plants use to cut emissions.

As a car enthusiast, I'm glad I don't live in Germany. If any politicians in the US try something like this, I'm sure they'll get voted out very quick.

We need stricter term limits enforced for all politicians. 4 year term, 2 terms max, no exceptions.
