My point is that my kit on the gskill website also says dual channel. I can confirm it runs in quad channel, has sequential serial numbers, is listed as quad on newegg, and is stable... I think gskill has overlooked this listing now that the finally added x99 to their qvl.

The picture could just be a stock photo. And the whole "dual" and "quad" channel just means they have been tested as dual or quad, you could put two dual channels together and make a quad, they just have not been tested together so no sure way to know if they are compatible with each other until you try it.

No but standing behind the product enough to add it to qvl and ship it with sequential numberings means more then having a potential text error in product description.

and why do you think that sequential serial numbers would define whether or not the kit was tested as dual or quad channel? (hint - it does not. the serial numbers are added after binning for all kits).
Please show me the link showing a 4x8GB 3600C16 kit is on an x99 QVL.

Exactly.
4 sticks of dual channel kit *may* work in quad channel config. However, just because they come with 4 sticks, it does not necessarily mean it's specifically binned for quad channel operation.

The topic of Tridents for X99 has been beaten to death already. I had 3 kits of 16GB CL16 3200MHz TridZ either fail on me or cause instabilities, crashes and BSODs up the wazoo. They were all kits of 4 sticks with matching serial numbers. I was told they work fine on X99 because it's 4 sticks. However, that's not true. They would work for a while, then crash my system, fail to boot (Code "bd") or Windows would only recognize 12 out 16 GB. When testing each stick individually, there was never an issue. Put all 4 in and try to run quad channel and the problems start again. I even went as far as to change 3 CPUs and Motherboards. Same exact behaviour every time. So while TridZ's might work, it comes down to luck of the draw. You can either have a great IMC on your chip or well binned memory IC's. Either way, I wouldn't gamble again with dual channel kits for X99, despite G.Skill now listing X99 in the QVL. I'll try this 32GB CL14 RGB kit, but if that doesn't work I'm out and done with G.Skill.

You could technically have a "quad channel kit" consisting of four different manufacturer memory sticks, one from each, with four different ICs and they would still be a "quad channel" kit just because the platform treats the configuration like that. It would still not be guaranteed to work at all.

I am no memory expert by any means, I like to run XMP on the memory only but usually selecting a compatible kit either from the memory or the motherboard manufacturer has usually worked for me. On the other hand, I still have had most issues with kits that need to utilize XMP on the 125 strap and least with kits that can utilize the 100 strap even when the kits have been on the compatibility list. tongue.gif
