[Geforce Forums] 4-Way and 3-Way SLI possible on Games with Nvidia Pascal - Page 2

This has been talking about for a long time now and we have a member or two on this forum who has been running 4-way Titan X's even. Nothing new or newsworthy on this front.

Maybe 3 and 4 way sli/cf, but not 2 way. Almost every game (especially triple A) has decent scaling with 2 gpus.

Only using 22GB of ram lol.

You really don't know much on the subject do you? DOOM - No multi-GPU support, Wolfenstein - No multi-GPU support, Gears of War 4 - no multi-GPU support, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - awful scaling, Anno 2205 - awful scaling or maybe even no profile at all, Batman Arkham Knight - no multi-GPU support but to be fair the port itself was an unadulterated **** show. Those are just the ones off the top of my head, add to the fact that almost no DX12 games support it and that last year when Nvidia was posting 'game ready' drivers with all major releases, almost none of them had working SLI profiles on launch (Fallout 4 and Assassin's Creed Syndicate to name a couple). Even before that, Titanfall which was definitely a AAA release didn't have a working profile for over six months and most had to get custom SLI bits to run it.

SLI support has been getting more and more disappointing as the years go on and now with Pascal most benches point to the conclusion that the newest cards scale horribly below 4K maybe something to do with the software being a bit behind the hardware, I'm not entirely sure but with the exceptions of Crysis 3, Shadow of Mordor, Rise of the Tomb Raider, etc but those games scale well at almost all resolutions and very few games are optimised so well.

Could very well be that my next upgrade will be straight to a single flagship card. Can't really be bothered to upgrade to 4K just to justify better scaling in only some games.

I think what is worthy here is that those guys are nice enough to share their profiles with the community.

If you could please share the name of the guys that had ran with 4 way sli so that we can ask for the SLI Profiles that'd be great.

I posted in the OCN Titan XP Owners thread about this two weeks ago.

Source: Functional 4 Way SLI Titan X Pascal - in several games - how he did it, in his words.

Educational/ Info only on how one guy says he did it in his niche "server" setup with listed games :o

 1. make sure you have a 4 way bridge with metal connectors. The prongs on each side actually close a circuit and notify the card you have a higher band bridge.

2. make sure you're on driver 372.54, the 369.05 is broke

3. pic any game in nvcpl, go to sli mode under programs, does the drop down show 3 and 4 gpu afr 1 and afr 2 as a choice as in the picture I have earlier in the post?I should have 4-Gpu in the drop down.

4. with nvinspector, in base profile, sli mode, instead of auto, make sure you selected 4 cards. Apply changes.

5. I don't have Rise of the Tomb Raider. I get my games from GOG and never steam (don't like rent-to-play). I like clicking on the executable and bam being right in the game WITHOUT a third party ap constantly running in the background. Otherwise, you don't own the game, you're streaming it

lastly:

I don't run windows 10.Never will,
So I don't have dx12.

My rig is on Windows Server 2012r2, running as a workstation, no issues from that what so ever.
So maybe in windows 10 there is a driver issue/difference that I don't know about.
Im using 372.54 without any issues or any changes in sli compared to when I had the regular 4-way sli with the original Titan X

I launch about half of my work stuff as a VM so windows 2012r2 was a good choice for that. Protected environment for a lot of stuff.

I also launch in no GUI mode when I have a lot of stuff to run. One of my apps is a unix only App so I use Ubuntu for that one.

I have had no issues in Ubuntu, but that is a different post.

512GB ram DDR4 2400mhz ecc reg
(QUAD SLI) 4 Titan X PASCAL
2x Samsung NVMe 961 Pro pcie 3.0 (os drives)
10x Samsung 850 Pro SSD RAID (apps drive)
LG 31MU97z 4096x2160 true 4K rev C

Again this is as far as I'm concerned, info only, about a wild one-off. But this is OCN so nothing can be considered out of bounds as we have the crazy 1%'ers here as well.

P.S., the politics of Nvidia shutting >2 way SLI down, someone else can talk to it. My personal opinion is that ultimately even for me it's too expensive to play with, for it to not work on a whim or driver update etc... I'm going single card next gen.

I have had a multi gpu setup for the last 6 years, so I think I know a little about this subject. ID tech games are 1 out of the thousands of games that have proper sli/cf support. You listed games that are notorious for being broken on PC. Fallout 4 worked on launch with AFR enabled, and it scales very well. And there are only a handful of dx12 games out there, so the 99% of other games work just fine with multiple cards.

The list is not from Ghoxt but from the very same "venturi" guy i talked about on the beggining of the thread.

In a nutshell yes you can get it to work, but it's far from efficient enough to warrant buying 4 GPU's for inconsistency like that with Pascal.

As much as I've loved my 4-way SLI builds in the past up until my 4x Maxwell Titan X's, it was quite frankly a waste of time and money. I always end up selling 2 of them off less than 6months down the line anyway. And everytime i ditched 2, my system was far superior.

Will i miss 3/4 Way SLI? Nope, for me i've lost interest in it as it's always been a pita to work with anyway. Sure, i loved getting high up in benchmark rankings, but nobody buys hardware like that for just benchmarks. It's about the absolute best gaming experience for me, and that has never been 3 or 4 way SLI.

Besides the fact that GPU costs are now getting ridiculous, spending almost $5000 just in GPU's every upgrade is too stupid even for me to swallow. Also, look at the shelf life of GPU's now, GTX 1080 was barely 3months old, and Titan XP came along. And now there's the likelyhood the Titan XP will be superseeded in just 3months time with the Pascal refreshed Geforce 2000 series!

The shelf life of GPU's are way too short these days for that kind of expenditure on a regular basis.

I was sorry to see 3 and 4 way SLi axed. I always love the gain from the third card in my 3-way 980 Ti setup.

BF4 - awesome scaling and performance
Battlefront - awesome scaling and performance
Shadow of Mordor - awesome scaling and performance
GTAV - awesome scaling and performance
Total War: Warhammer - decent performance bump
WoW - even this game's average fps went up over 20 during my tests at 7680x1440p lol.
Tomb Raider - awesome scaling and performance
BF1 - I expect it to be just like BF4 and Battlefront with 3 GPUs.

Basically the games I spend 90% of my time playing all do well with 3 GPUs. So for me, I love that some people found a way to make it work with Pascal. As long as AMD continues to support 3-way, I may be switching to them later on.
