I am wanting to finally upgrade to an i5 or i7 or AMD equivalent. I am looking for something that will be able to play H1Z1 which is CPU intensive and be able to stream to Twitch.
Ideally I am looking for the $250 range, but will go up to about $300. New or used is fine. I have been looking at i5 2500k or i7 2600k but my friend has an i5 6600k and his for some reason won't handle streaming and playing H1Z1....so I'm lost.
If I were to go AMD, what would he a good i5/i7 equivalent chip & board combo? Again, new or used is fine.
KOTK's new overhaul is less demanding than it used to be, but yes, it's fairly CPU intensive.
The first rig I had on hand when the game hit day one release was an i5 2500k @4.4Ghz paired with an R9 270X. JS was 45fps in city, 120 out in the woods. KOTK was maybe 65 - 70fps in city, same in woods as JS. I used default GFX settings, never played with them.
I now have a 5820k @ 4.4Ghz paired with an 980ti. JS I still get about the same amount of frames in city/woods as I used to (horrible I know).
In KOTK after the overhaul I get at minimum 56 FPS, but we're talking like a few seconds in an area in the woods for no known reason. All day frames are usually 75 - 80 during firefight.
I down clocked my 2500k once to see if there was a difference, and it was negligible. As far as I can tell it's reliant on core count and core efficiency. I've also played it on a Athlon 860k @4.2Ghz, and it is horrible. So again, core efficiency.
If a 2700k is all you can afford, go for it. You're going to need that hyperthreading with this game.
Yes, I know...crap lol. I get 35 or so fps everywhere, with random jumps to about 50 that don't last long. It runs at about 90% cpu usage. I tried streaming and it's pretty choppy, same thing that happens to my friends 6600k. The main thing is that I don't want to buy a 2500k or 2600k expecting to be able to play and stream, and it not work but have been fine had I bought a different similar priced chip. They way my friends 6600k won't kinda scares me on buying an i5.
I wish I had personal experience with loading up an i7 with streaming and gaming, but I don't. I'd imagine an i7 is the way to go, though.
The 2700k prices on fleabay are just....... Depending on where in the world you are, it's like $250 US, or 221 British pound + shipping + import fees.
You can get an AMD 8350 and overclock the heck out of it for $160 US, but again, per core performance.
I know that if you don't stream you'll still see massive improvement and be able to move around without the game playing like molasses, as long as you tweak some GFX settings to lower GPU usage.
You should ask your friend what his core usage is as he streams. He might have to lower his recording resolution. Having a quick look over at the OBS forums, there are options to record with load on your GPU, recording resolution, ect....
I have a I7 3930k and I stream, edit, and game with it. I've never had any issues, its smooth and great with multi threading (never OC'd). I also have an AMD Athelon X4 860k (Never OC'd) and I do the same stuff on it. You can tell the difference. I agree that the 8350 is the way to go with AMD or go with the same I7 I have. I got my i7 for $120 its not the newest but it still kicks some butts.
Not to mention the fact you are spamming Intel in a AMD subforum. Talk about class.
There is a Intel CPU forum for those interested in those cpu. This is the AMD forum for those asking about AMD, not for people like you to come say spend more on Intel.
The 5820k is selling on Newegg for $390 right now today. The difference in price means that my Fury cost me $85 instead of $310. Or, I could have bought a 1080 instead.
Another way of looking at is: How are you enjoying your GeForce GT 730? That how big the difference in price is.
Bang for the buck is important around here. In the intel forums? Not so much.

I own both AMD and Intel and to be honest I like them both. It all depends on what your budget is and what you want out of your computer. I use my AMD as my LAN gaming computer. And it is just fine for me. I always had an Intel CPU until recently I wanted to see what the hubub was about. For the price I like it a lot. Just need to figureout how to overclock it.
We are being constantly assaulted by "knowitalls" here and respond accordingly. You are trying to be polite and I need to back off too.
Do you know that the current FXs are 45% faster than the original FXs? All without a new socket every year too.
Right now today the FX is a better deal than it was 4 years ago from a pure performance point of view and also is a better deal as more and more software developers switch to multithreading their apps. No one is claiming that FX can compete with the more expensive competition in all scenarios. It is only adequate in MMOs for instance. Sometimes we have to push hard to get that point across.
I ended up finding an i7 2700k + ga-z77-d3h + corsair h100 (280mm) for $200. I decided to go that route and save up to update to newer technology in the future. For now, the i7 should be sufficient for what I am looking to do.
Thank you guys for the advice, it was appreciated.

Ayup, the quads are done as they are the bottleneck in more and more games. This is why the FX is aging so well too. This plus their price makes them a serious contender after all these years. They're cheap to buy, fun to OC, and suddenly they are performing pretty well.
They're not the best but I don't play that game. There is always someone bigger, stronger, faster, quicker, smarter, richer, etc.. Going down that road is a lose/lose proposition.
That's also just the PC enthusiast game, though. Constant struggle for "what will last me."
Can't wait to see what price point the middle of the road Zen lands at. All of the Youtubers I watch are getting super stagnant because there just isn't anything interesting out there.
Next year is going to be a treat!
