It's been almost 5 years since my last upgrade (damn, 2600k is good!) and I don't play as much modern games but i've decided I want a new rig and try what the new hype is about (1440p and gsync)
I currently have 2 radiators xspc 360 and 240 (silent typhoon ar15 push pull for both), d5 pump and reservoir with silver coil, in a corsair 800D case.
Im looking to getting 7700k and 1080ti both under water. I also would like to do solid petg or acrylic tubing.
Do you guys suggest sticking with soft tubing? Changing the case? Any links to petg/acrylic?
If you have the money ,get your self a bigger case to work with , Case labs anything is awesome , and maybe a couple 480 rads . separate the loop from cpu and gpu to get the most effective cooling .
Hardline tubing is awesome , but can be very time consuming and tedious . be ready for frustration , but well worth it in the end result
.
good luck man .
Thanks for the reply! Don't you think it's a little over for 1 CPU and 1 GPU separate loops with 2 x 480s? Though I agree with a larger and better looking case!
Honestly, i think you still have a pretty awesome setup.
From a cost saving standpoint, the 800d is still a great case, and your current watercooling components are still top notch. I would disassemble to check your blocks and radiators and thoroughly clean it if you havent done maintenance in a while. Seeing as youre using silver kill coil, i hope your nickel plated cpu block is ok as kill coil and nickle dont mix well. I also would personally swap out the tubing for norprene/ek zmt as it is the only true plasticizer free tubing imo. I just dont trust the clear or colored tubing anymore as they tend to discolor overtime and probably still prone to plasticizing.
If you want to start over fresh with a new build and pair it with new watercooling components, i highly recommend you check out thermalbench.com and xtremerigs.net. VSG and fast_fate are members here who do great work testing and reviewing the latest watercooling products for their sites. If u want hard tubing, i still prefer acrylic though i think most would prefer petg as it is a lot more malleable. Have patience cuz u will have some trial and error but the results will be worth it in the end.
If u want a new case, there are a plethora of options nowadays as oppose to 5 years ago. Corsair just came out with the air 740 which provide a lot of watercooling options (tho none of their current cases match the quality of the 700/800d). Phanteks makes fantastic cases as well and i really like what bequiet! has provided also. Cooler master maker series are really thought out and well made, with thermaltake and inwin providing the bling and more edgier designs.
You dont need a caselabs case, but if u want the most flexability, top quality and best damn customer service in the world. No one compares to caselabs. The reason why there are more cases made for watercooling from big mainstream brands today as oppose to 5 years ago is because of caselabs. It took one man and his company to change the game and they should be paid in royalties for how much their designs have blarantly been stolen or kindly interpreted. We also have a great community of caselabs owners here too.
