I have an Asus RT-AC66U. it was packed and moved across country when I PCS'd from San Diego to DC. It does make a nice little rattle sound and seems little bits are rolling around inside when I shake it...I also use Merlin WRT...great stuff for our Asus routers. I will flash it back to a stock firmware and compare. I really doubt the merlin is causing the issues I have. Been using the custom firmware since forever.
I think the router is dying. Sometimes my printer, TV's just get connection errors on the 2.4ghz. Wont connect, router reboot, tv/printer reboot, all is well. Plus my security system has weather on it...when the high and low is 0 degrees, something is wrong. lol
I am so tempted to buy a Netgear X4S router...all the latest and greatest hardware for what I would use it for...just not two 5ghz bands...it would be nice, but the MU-MIMO that actually works would benefit greatly. Just gotta pony up the 200 bucks.
