Hey everyone,
Helping a friend build a computer as he starts his career in Industrial Design. He's going to be building his computer for 3D rendering and using professional software programs like SolidWorks, the Adobe Suite (including Photoshop), etc. I recommended hyperthreading and have built a computer, based on Intel's current lineup, but it's been about 4 years since I built a computer. Below are my specs, including the i3-6100 and the i7-6700k. His initial budget was 700 max, but he has been pretty flexible. If there are any cuts that can be made without compromising value, let me know. Also, let us know of better options at each component. If we use the 6700k, then obviously that budget is much more flexible.
CPU - Intel i3-6100 OR Intel i7 6700k, depending on his final decision
Motherboard - ASUS Z170-E LGA 1151 Intel Z170
GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti Superclocked 2GB
SSD Boot Drive - Crucial MX300 275GB SSD
CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1866
Case - Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-03 ATX Mid Tower white LED Fans
Power Supply - EVGA SuperNOVA G2 220-G2-0550-Y1 550W Fully Modular
CD Drive - ASUS 24X DVD Burner
After rebates and shipping and at the time of posting, I've got $958.82 CAD for the i3 and $1248.82 CAD for the i7. We're Canadian and we haven't price compared yet for your searches, just using NewEgg for now.
