Looking for a laptop for my friend. Budget is 1000$. Something decent enough that he can play new games while he crosses Europe
.
Rquirements:
- HDD 500GB to 1TB
- USB 3.0
- HDMI/DP
- IMPORTANT: Power consumption only up to 220W- it is because he is truck driver that is how much he can generate for laptop usage.
Thank you all for all you recommendtions in advance
I gotta admit that this is the first situation I have seen where truck driving was a condition of the purchase lol
I would go for the simple lenovo Y700.
You get a 15 inch 1080p laptop with a proper quad core i5 and a 960m 4Gb for just shy of 1K.
It also will sit at around 135 watts. I would also like some clarification on that.
Can he generate 220 watts max, or is 220 the max he can provide to the laptop.
Because if he can only physically generate 220 watts, then we should probably stay below 150 watts so that he can turn on a light or something in the truck.
I do not think he would want to be in a situation where he would have to choose between his laptop and other creature comforts.

Leaves additional money for a mouse/mousepad, bigger SSD if need be, upgrading ram if need be/possible or maybe a laptop stand with a mouse pad on the side.
*No Display port

not bad at all for the money but its a duel core with HTing and pretty low base clock. That said it should feed the 960 pretty well with it being skylake +ddr4 but you might also toss the idea of waiting for the newly released 1050 1050ti cards. If nothing he could save a fair chunk of change when they are trying to sell their old stock.
Hell with 220w he could probably get into laptop 1060 territory with alot of overhead on that inverter. I'd say either way shoot for sales an with his budget a true quad core @ around 3ghz base clock.

Some benchmarks show the i7-6500u dual core over the i5-6300hq, but now looking at it more the i5 does show better performance.
And I was talking to him via PMs, I was suggesting the same things, waiting for some sales (Black Friday is a good time to wait for).
Buying new you have to wait for deals to come around when you're on a set budget.
