RX 480 VS 1070 for an i5 3570k...or a new build?

I was wanting to upgrade my GTX 770 but after researching and seeing that the i5 3570k is struggling to keep up with the 1070 on Battlefield 1...I'm starting to wonder...

I generally just game on 1080p but I want maxed out games at 60 fps...what should I do?

I see people toss around freesync/gsync monitors and that leads me down the RX 480 + Freesync VS 1070 debate...but I honestly don't know what to do...

Should I get a new mobo/CPU or am I able to throw on a air cooler to replace my stock cooler and pump out 4.2GHz on the i5 3570k to stay compatible with future games?

At 1080p, the processor bottleneck would be even more pronounced with the 1070 as it is able to much better finish up its work of drawing the scene at that res. At this time, I'd suggest to hold on if you can bear the 770 as we're close to year end holiday season and both vendors should drop details on new cards. If you cannot, I'd get the 480.

If your playing at 1080 you will be fine for a 480 for over 60FPS on max settings. Even at 1440 the 480 is fine. Mind you this is only BF1 and those benches are with a chip that has more than 4 threads.

It really depends on how much money you want to spend...

What board do you have now?
You could always look for an i7 to drop in it and overclock for those extra threads.
Do you plan on going higher resolution?
What games do you plan on playing?

Yeah I might hold off on an upgrade...

I have an Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 and was looking into i7 chips but they are EXTREMELY pricey for the old models...

I want to possible jump to a higher resolution but I am fine on 1080p as well and won't be upgrading my monitor for a bit. In terms of gaming, I generally try to play most newer games, I wanted to check out Shadow Warrior and Gears though on max.

No. Depending on the game you will have to drop a setting or 2(things like AO) for 60 fps, even at 1080P.

you say he might wanna hold on making a purchase of a gpu atm. im thinking of getting the 1060 6gb msi, do you suggest i wait on upgrading to this from gtx 950? And why would you suggest that? im pretty new to all this computer stuff.Do gpu makers normally have a new product/better deal type thing during this time of year?

I'd say even wait from upgrading to a 1060 as prices are bound to plunge either due to the vendors announcing new cards or / and the holiday season kicking in with sales and promos. Also, if you decide to go 1060, I'd doubly make sure to get the 6GB one, unless the 3GB is available for ~100$ less
