My 303 build log. - Page 6

I ordered what I think to be every thing I need to get the PC up and running. I did get some things on a budget for now like the mouse and keyboard. I want to upgrade to a corsair keyboard later with cherry brown keys and RGB and a mad catz rat 8 mouse but that stuff will have to come later. I had a hard time tracking down a 250G M.2 960 EVO so I got the 500G instead. The wife was not too happy with me. I also got a 3 pack of Thermaltake Riing RGB 120mm fans for now. I will be putting 2 in the bottom and 1 in the rear and still running the stock reds up top that came with the deep cool cooler. I will upgrade later to more Thermaltake fans but for now this gets me running and using the PC. I also ordered windows 10 on a thumb drive which should simplify things a little for me. Once I get every thing I should have every thing I need to get up and running and using my PC. Probably going to run an HDMI cable to the TV for now as my monitor. Its going to take me some time to get it how I want and tuned. I am guessing I will probably take about a week on setting this thing up. Probably take a few days to make it run proper and get programs down loaded and a few more on the overclocking part. I am 100% new at all of this so every thing I am learning is coming from you guys, you tube and my manuals I get with my parts.

So I think the next step in this after it is running is the custom loop and back on track for case modding so you guys will see me start to pick that up again. I have learned some stuff about the dipping I was doing and I have got a lot better at it. I have been dipping tools at work and learning quiet a bit every time I dip. Probably going to do a new pattern and might just use my spare case as a parts case and for practice. I think I will order a 3rd case for modding and start fresh. First priority though in any modding is the front panel mod. I will figure out the proper way to do this so it looks nice and professional and is easy to do. I am wondering if the best way is to find some paint like InWin used that's transparent. I will look in to this as well as the films.

Ok so call me a follower but I thought my next case would be a cheep build after I am done tinkering on this one but them dam Z270 Mobo's are looking pretty dam cool. being able to run 2, M.2 SSDs and being able to cool them better is pretty sick. Asus has a water block that cools the M.2 along witht the CPU and I want it. 2017 is looking good. Too bad there is not much in performance parts yet this year though unless your an AMD fan.

Well I have Corsair 2400MHz ram 4X4 sticks. I have the low latency Dominator ram that runs at 1.35V and it was not booting with all 4 sticks in. I got it to boot with 1 stick so thought that maybe it was a voltage problem as the computer was giving it 1.2 volts and running it at 2133MHz. I adjusted the voltage, restarted, made sure it booted and then turned it off and installed the other 4 sticks. Again it did not boot. I than tried 2 sticks in A1 and A2 and again it did not boot. I tried 1 stick again and it booted so I swapped sticks. As it turned out I have 1 bad stick. I now have 3 sticks in at 12G of ram running fine. Sucks 1 stick is bad but 12G is enough for what I am doing. I was worried I made a noob mistake and bought something that was not compatible. And yes I made sure it was that stick and not the MOBO.

I used the self tune in bios and it set the ram at 1.35V and around 2,500MHz with the CPU at 4.65 MHz and I think also at 1.35V. I don't have windows installed yet so cant test things out for about a week. Going to probably get some new ram later and see if it lets me over clock farther. I should have got the 2,666MHz ram that the manual recommended instead of the 2,400 and probably still will. Might do 2X8 sticks instead in just A1 and A2. I lost the manual for my MOBO and have to track it down. I still have the disk though. For some reason it is running my CPU fans at 100% now after trying to install the ram instead of ramping them up and down by CPU temp.

Well.... mem problem solved.

You surely can get the MOBO manual on the vendor site, so no problem there.
I had a similar problem with my olderrrrr mobo and got it fixed with a bios update. Hope the same works for you.

Sometimes in my current mobo (MSI Krait GAming 3x Z170a the CPU temp readings goes up and down by a diff of 10 celcius degrees. Don´t ask me why, but it only happens sometimes. The fan I got there got crazy with it. I replaced air cooler with a water AIO and stopped looking at that temp, but it seems to be steady now.

Ya I down loaded the manual and did some reading last night.

Today I got my HHDs in raid 1 and did a 15% over clock using the auto tune feature. The chip is at 4.63 with a 1.34 volt and the ram is around 2500 with also a 1.34 volt. I had every thing set and ok but kept tampering with settings in the BIOS and now have to figure out what I did that raised my CPU temps. I was running at 30C and that was with the over clock but after messing with something it is now 50C. I know its not my cooler, its a setting I messed with. I had the over clock running for a bout 10 minutes steady at 28-30C with my fans at low speed. My CPU fans are running max as the temp is high and staying steady at 50C now. It is this temp at any clock speed. I had the chip set to over clock at 4.3 and same temp. I am also getting a code A9 but I will get the rest of the parts installed and a normal video cable instead of using the HDMI and see if it clears up.

My auto tune feature went all buggy on me when I was letting it auto tune and it adjusted the voltage to almost 1.5 volts. I did not like this so after messing with things and letting it re tune it did a 1.08 volt at a 4.6GHz and froze it self up. I was able to reset the bios, messed with some settings, let it re tune and now have the above clock but due to no operating system I am unable to play with it and see how stable it is. I am guessing I will probably be lowering the over clock to around 4.5 later. I still have no front panel lighting too. Not sure how to make it work. I obviously have something hooked up wrong. Going to spend a lot of time tonight reading the manual so I can work the little things out. I will be playing games soon...

Hi!!!
I had a similar problem this week with my notebook (CPU temps going up and fan blowing out like crazy). The only thing running on the computer was google chrome!!
The task manager showed up one windows process eating up my CPU. Cant remember the name!
I have another win process eating up mem, the "Windows Driver Foundation". I just kill it from time to time. Same with the one that eat up my cpu. Problem solved!!!

I hope you problem is something similar. If cpu temp goes hot with cpu running low, most likely it is a voltage problem.

Ya going to clear my settings with the Cmos button and see if it fixes the temp. I pushed on the cooler, held it for a little while to make sure is was not a problem with the cooler not being tight enough. On a good note though I got my front panel to light up. I was thinking when I woke up what it could be and remembered my connector for my hard drive had 3 connectors on it and realized it was about the same size as the connector I left unhooked in my case. I first booted my PC with no hard drives in it and at the time had no clue were the connector went as I had not installed the hard drive power cable yet. I installed the hard drives a few days ago but had not put the power cable in tell yesterday.

I was having a problem with the BIOS adjusting my fan speeds and looked to see what I did wrong and found on my controller that one of the fan connectors what white and the others are black. I plugged one fan in to the white connector on the block and now have fan speed control based on CPU temps. I did a lot of things wrong first go lol. That's what you get when you don't read the manuals.

So the 960 EVO showed up today. I tried to go the the craft store and find some acrylic sheets but they didn't have any thing. I was looking for something I could use to mod the front panel but found nothing. It was half fabric stuff so I will try a different store next time I leave town. I even looked for transparent film, paint or tape but found nothing which surprised me because it was a large store. I did however find some cool stuff that could be used for other things though. I picked up some clear plastic ink jet film that is designed to have negatives printed on it which would look cool in black and white either alone, behind the color I put in the panel or in front. I also picked up some cool stencils and some vinyl film that's designed to be cut with a cricut machine. The sister in law has a Cricut machine so I am going to borrow it and try cutting some stuff out. Not sure if I will use any of this but I will play with it and see if any thing turns our that I can use in my case. Still need some more dip stuff too. Dam projects are expensive. I picked up a Dremel accessory kit today too so I can polish the extra front panel this weekend.

My front panel mod using a $6 piece of orange chameleon head light film. I put 1 piece on the white piece, 1 piece on the back side of the blue piece that I washed the paint off of and 1 in front were the logo was. Looks cooler in person. There is some reds that don't show in the picture and the camera shows a few flows that are hard to see in person. Like it better then the blue. The multi shades of yellow, orange and red is cool I was not expecting that. I thought it was going to be more of a solid color with pearl.
