Will my mobo+ Ram work ok?

UPDATE 11/17/06

After reading the comments here, Thanks guys for the advice guys! i ended up invested more onto a better MOBO. For a better price.

45$ originally it was 65$ but was lucky to get it on a 20.00 rebate. for MSI Gaming Intel Skylake H110 LGA 1151 DDR4 USB 3.1 Micro ATX Motherboard (H110M Gaming)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B4U47E4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

35$ invested into a G skill my favorite ram so far. G.SKILL 8GB Ripjaws V Series DDR4 PC4-19200 2400MHz for Intel Z170 Platform / Intel X99 Platform Desktop Memory Model F4-2400C15S-8GVR

Ended up spending less on mobo/ram for the first time saving 75+ dollars i'm happy with it smile.gif for my current position i need to buy a monitor. Using a 10 year old plus hp monitor.. mad.gif yes i know don't laugh!

Got a I5 6600 For 190$ brand new, i should of bought the 6600k for 190$ but it was used and came with no heatsink.. i would need to spend 20- 50$ on a better cpu cooler on top of that a better mobo that extra 70$+ for a z170 (i absolutely love those features) Not worth the investment seeing as AMD ZEN and kaby lake right around the corner.

This is my mobo/ram i am buying i'm currently on a really tight budget of 50$ bundle, will these 2 work well with a i3 or i5?

I plan on getting an I3 6100 but unsure if i should go higher. I casually game here and now just hope it doesn't bottleneck to much if i were to get an i3 :/

The board and ram will work just fine together, outside that. You will get a solid performance boost with a new I3 6100 but do note it will still be the main bottleneck in your system. If you only play at 1080p ( or less ) you wont have an issue though. Some really cpu intensive games will struggle if you slam up the settings but for casual high to medium in games it will do 60 fps just fine. If you want to future proof a little bit more i would look into an I5. Specifically the I5 6500 it is 1 sku up from the base 6400 but it has a 500mhz clock boost for 20$ and the performance gain on games that love extra frequency is huge making it much easier to justify. You could base clock the 6400 ( depending on board ) but its a pain and most people just dont want too which is why i recommend the 6500. 205$ on Newegg right now but im sure some searching you might find some deals ( and with black friday coming up it should be easy if you want to wait a little bit ) The performance gain from the I3 6100 to the I5 6500 is nearly a 2x increase depending on the game but it easily balances out your other parts mainly your gpu and should keep you much happier much longer. But this is assuming you are ok with spending a little bit more on your cpu. i have built a I3 6100 build for a friend and he plays at 900p and he has no issues. Its a wonderful little cpu for the price. Hope this helps ya man. biggrin.gif

Thanks for clarifying that to me. Honestly i don't play 1080p i haven't bought a monitor for it yet. That next on my list!

I always assume that gpu card were the reason for your settings but i understand some games like GTA5 require more cpu usage. I actually invested in a i5 6600.. way over my budge like 70 bucks more.. in something that i'm getting.. This time i spend way less on MOBO and just settle with the stuff i would need. saved me 50 bucks and put it into cpu value. Personally i think i would feel happier. It took me nearly 2 months to search and understand the different style of mobos, good learning experience. Like i love the style of z170 but i settle for h110 the board not as bad.. fit my needs.

Everyone i talked to said its worth it than getting an i3.. the i3 only exist i feel like its for people that do stuff casually like surfing the net and such, video editing for sure i need an i5-i7. Part of me understand the possible usage of what i can do with it.. price is a problem. Which was leading me to an i3 in the first place. With the prices on newegg which is horrible for me.. the taxes are insane... Amazon helped me out greatly so far. Heck going to my local fry store might be a bit cheaper but i doubt it lol!

At this moment i have to say i think i'm really lucky getting a brand new i5 6600 for 190$ with free shipping. I predict black friday price might range the same maybe i'm wrong but i hardly see it under 190$ bucks.. unless its used. I also invested for a better ram for a gskill 8gb, for almost the same price.. heck 1 more slot for me to put it later

I appreciate the input smile.gif Would love to hear from other people to ^.^ always great to hear stuff!

Congrats on 600th post :3

Just make sure you still get a solid mobo though. dont cheap out too hard there either as it is the main board to run it all. I3 is a solid budget option but exactly that. "Budget" if you can afford it any of the I5's will be a solid and noticeable boost. Im assuming your not in the US though as taxes and stuff from newegg. it does make it alot harder but im sure you can find some good deals around especially on amazon and if you wait till black friday even more so. And that is a solid price for a 6600 with free shipping. 20+ bucks saved. Z170 is also nice but a waste if you arent overclocking. much better value boards for non overclocking chips.

Ya just need ddr4 with that set up.  And im pretty sure you can OC the i3 to 4.0-4.5ghz with right MB bios.

Solely depends on the board though, Has to be a launch board with a bios that has the old microcode on it or can be flashed to it. Any new boards from after the update that never had it to begin with never will get it which sucks if you make that your goal. Its a nice option but a bit of a pain for most to do.

Well i ended up spending more now smile.gif I'd say its a better investment. Its over my budget but i think its ok.
I've spoken to many members and everyone want me to get the i5. Personally i didn't want to because i have another build in mind which is a AMD ZEN if its good

its difficult to past up the price on my current deals so i decided to bite the bullet. i don't think i have the patience to see the release, Plus its better to wait after the bugs and such are dealt with.

I'm from the U.S California to be exact so yea the taxes is much worst than my neighboring states lol

Does the newer msi board i mention to bios update?

Isn't it risky to do that?!!

Hi there

Have look on this guide

http://overclocking.guide/asrock-z170-non-k-overclocking-guide/

If its risky, every OC is risky in one way or another,I think Intel offers some sort of warranty

If you will not go above too much on vCore and cache then you should be OK,try check few guides for that

Hope this helps

Thanks, Jura

Its not really risky just takes time, more so doing bclk overclocking. BUT. your motherboard doesnt have any active vrm cooling so i personally wouldnt overclock it. It would be extra strain and heat on the vrm with no ability to cool down faster. Im sure it could handle it but it would heavily shorten the lifespan of the board in the long run. Outside that, the board does have bios codes going back to december 2015 so those early ones should/might have the feature. but like i said above i would refrain from doing so. Hope this helps.
