Which 1151 mobo?

Thread Starter
So one of my htpc's finally died and I have decided to replace it with a i3-6100 system. Given that I would like to keep costs down to a minimum, is there really any reason to not go with a low end board....ie...h110 or a b150? This will be a seldom used htpc. It will mostly stream, play older steam games, and the like. I am open to h170 boards, but really think z170 would be wasted in this scenario. Really just want to know if there are any realistic reasons to not go with the low end options.

Thank you for your time.

nothing wrong with saving money where it does not need spending.

just stick with known brand name boards so you can still get customer service if necessary.

if you are not using fancy PCIE-SSD or need NVME drives, looks like that i3 can be paired with a simple $50 board and still yield many eyars of use.

I like the asus and msi ITX boards. some even have an M.2 slot on the back for a nice hidden boot drive if you are willing to throw a few more bucks at it.

you can get a B150/H170 Hyper/OC motherboard from Asrock and it will allow overclocking if you dont want to buy a z170
