Hey,
I just bought the 960 EVO 500GB. It's awesome and super fast. I installed it via dedicated m.2 to pci-e 3.0 x4 adapter that I ordered from eBay, because my on-board m.2 slot runs "only" at pci-e x2 speed. Everything went smooth, I'm using the Samsung NVMe driver.
Motherboard: MSI Z97 MPOWER.
CPU: i5-4690k @OC 4.5 GHZ

Was finally able to grab one off Amazon from a third party at a reasonable price. I was planning on getting the 500gb version for the faster sequential write speeds but just went with the 250gb because of the price-gauging. Random Read and write is the most important benchmark anyways and only use like 150gb out of 500gb on my current 850 evo.. Also grabbed an m.2 heatsink off ebay. Really excited, I actually upgraded my whole computer for this (was just really looking for an excuse the last year).

It's here! I wasn't able to cancel the other order so another one will show up Tuesday.

I love tech. Especially PC's. Like you my first PC was a 386. I am very lucky and grateful that I have a well paying job that allows me to spend on new tech. Generally my son (17) and daughter (14) get my "hand me downs", that is one generation old.

He did have my "old" X79 board and 4930K. It was a good system. But I received the 5960X back from warranty, along with the Asus RVE board. Gave the board to a friend (I hated that board), purchased him the MSI board instead. The MSI board was less than half the cost and I feel, a LOT better designed and built.

It is stable and robust. It works.

So I upgraded his drives, memory as well. Next will be the graphics.

We game online together, which is great.

I got my 960 EVO 500gb yesterday and adapter card today. The drive is smoking fast but I have some concerns when bench marking it. I bought the Lycom DT-120 M.2 PCIe to PCIe 3.0 x4 Adapter because the Asus Hyper M.2 X4 is not going to be here until Monday and I could not wait.

Following are the important particulars of my system:
Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK
i5-4690K @ 4.7 GHz
ASUS GeForce GTX 970 Strix (1468/7830)
16gb (4x4gb) G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 2400
Windows 10

My mobo has latest bios and drivers. I'm running the latest NVMe driver (2.0.0.1607).

Following are some benchmarks:

Any ideas on what might be going on?

Looks okay to me, Are you concerned with that last part of the ATTO benchmark ?

Comparing to other benchmarks I have seen of same drive:

- 4K Q32TI write numbers are a lot lower. Typically I have seen write numbers about 100 mb/s less than read numbers. I would expect them to be around 600 mb/s.
- All scores in the Samsung Magician benchmark look lower than they should. Read numbers look about 1,000 mb/s short and random (IOPS) numbers look terrible. I would expect around 400,000 for read and 260,000 for write. See ramboli post above.
- With ATTO I'm concerned with how scores drop off at end and more particularly the write scores.

Thanks!

If you're running the benchmark on the host drive, meaning the one with the OS, the benchmark results could be a little unpredictable for ATTO. You also may be seeing some thermal throttling which would account for the drop off at the at the end. It's not good to run a lot of benchmarks on the drive as it does wear on it, there are only so many read right cycles per cell before they come out be written to any longer
