It would be nice. I preordered the 512 first back in Oct for a Nov 1 delivery and got one notification that it has been pushed back to Nov 15 and that didn't happen either and got no further notifications. Meanwhile I have a build I can't finish because the M2 has to be installed before I can put the water block on my bottom gfx card and install the hard tubing. I want to run two in raid 0 with a second in a PCIe card. Well I managed to stumble across one 1TB drive so I bought it and finished my build cancelled the 2 512s and preordered the another 1TB in the beginning of DEC. Amazon says Dec 31, others say Jan 2 and others say available in 4-6 weeks. I do a search on a daily basis and was tempted to preorder from several places then cancel the remainder when the first one ships. Them logic told me that it would be my luck they would all ship on the same day. I'll just leave the Amazon preorder as is and keep looking. If I find one elsewhere first I'll just cancel the Amazon order. There are a few out there but the sellers are on the crack pipe judging from the totally out of line prices they are asking, like $200 over MSRP. I guess some people are paying that or they wouldn't list that high. Then there are Fleabay thugs marketing SM961s are Pros then you get to the listing and it shows the SM961 with 960 Pro (OEM) in the listing. Their entire page is a C&P of the 960 pro specs right off the Samsung website but they still make the distinction that their item is an OEM 960 Pro when there is no such critter. Th SM 961 is close but the gap is wider than previous models like the SM951 and 950 pro that are virtually identical. The 961 uses the same Polaris controller but the actual NAND chips are a generation old. Close and the SM961s are fairly easy to source. At first they were a little more then the MSRP but as the projected release date approaches the prices are decreasing substantially.

Regarding the 850:- it will be faster. I notice an increase in performance from my home RAID0 Neutron GTXs to a work 850 500GB M.2. IF your OCZ is 100% fine, I would use that as the OS drive and use the 850 Evo as a games/etc. drive. I actually just bought a 850 1TB Evo to do just that tongue.gif

I'm running a old bios on my x79 RIVE and works fine with NVME drive 950 pro for months now. I just had to disable CSM to get it to show up. But you can also inject a driver into older bios and would work as well. I seen people doing it in mac forms on z68 and x58. But on my rive it worked OOB. I never updated my bios to Ivy bios cause my overclock was great and stable as is at 4.7ghz for few years now. I was willing to upgrade my bios when NVME came out but it worked OOB and has been rock stable so still on same old bios.

Edit : I just did a quick search to see how much info there is on this out there and there still isn't that much. So if anyone else is interested google "NVMe.ffs module" to learn more on how to edit your bios's NVMe.ffs modules. But many UEFI bios's might work with CSM disabled (mine does).

Swapped some hardware around and finally got the 960evo 500gb working. It's a pain in the ass though. With my sound card in, it detects once in bios then on restart doesn't show up anymore. Using it as a boot drive with w7.

The weird thing is building in legacy bios support does nothing what so ever to performance numbers on newer systems. So dropping support for legacy systems does only one possible thing, lose you millions of dollars. Seems crazy for a business to do that intentionally....
AFAIK the Samsung 950 PRO ist the only NVMe drive with option ROM (besides 960?) for older systems without NVMe support in BIOS/UEFI.
All other manufacturers of NVMe SSDs don't have support for non NVMe BIOS/UEFI.
And all other NVMe SSDs from Samsung (besides 960?) don't have support for non NVMe BIOS/UEFI either.
The Samsung 950 PRO is an exception.

Enable CSM during the installation of Windows on a NVME-drive. Disable it after installation.

Your boottime will be faster.

I was mentioning my old RIVE bios detected the drive when CSM was disabled only.

Got my 2TB!

EDIT: I think it turns out I'm just dumb and the washer was intended to space between the drive and me MOBO, seems to fit if I put the washer/screw into the MOBO and the screw head into the washer.

Not exactly the easiest to separate though, so I assumed I broke it with how I had to get the washer+screw/screw apart.

Installing Windows now!thumb.gif
