Yea, X99 seems to work fine, my theory is that it's DMI limitation, X99/Z97 has DMI 2.0 while X79 is only DMI 1.0.

Perhaps also for 960 users. I have seen that many 960 members use Samsung Magician. I have a Samsung SM961 and an Samsung 850 Pro. When I install Magician for my 850 than my Read speeds drop down.

I have done some testing on the different drivers. I have only looked at the Read speeds, because the write speeds seems concistent.
This is done with a SM961-256Gb - Specs Read 3100/Write 1400. There is no overall winner, but the Samsung 1.4.8.3 from Dell and the Intel 1.8.0.1101 are the best consistent drivers. Because the system log reports an error on the Intel driver 1.8.0.1101 I prefer the Samsung 1.4.8.3 from Dell. The Samsung 2.4.70. driver is also good, but this driver drops to much after 75 seconds. When Samsung driver 1.4.7.16. had a higher 4k read than I would prefer that driver.

I've :

- Got latest 2.1 Samsung driver
- Disabled C-States
- Disabled EIST
- Tuned & tested any imaginable thing

Solid result of this should be around 75000 for read/write @ 512B and than it kind of multiplies by 2. I'm getting less than 50% of that mad.gif

Any ideas or tips ? It seems to me the X79 PCH is to blame.

Thanks in advance wink.gif

You can also download Driver Booster 4. With that free program you can scan your computer and it will report old drivers. I only use the scan and when it reports an old driver I search on the internet for that driver. You can also choose to update Driver Booster the old driver. I have done that by 2 friends and it installed the correct drivers.

You may very well have hit the nail on the head there. On a positive note, it's as good a reason as any to upgrade lol. wink.gif

Except, why would a DMI 3.0 board (Z170) be worse than 2.0?

Now you're getting all technical on me lol. If you've tried everything else then I suppose naturally you'd only have the non explicable things to blame.

Z170 has best M.2 performance of all, as far as I've researched so far. So, it's better not worse.

My seq speeds aren't the best =/ That's all I'm getting it lol. People with older boards are getting better performance, though it seems to be hit or miss.
