Announced at MechCon 2016, Piranha Games is taking MechWarrior back to its singleplayer roots with MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. Slated for a 2018 release, Piranha Games president Russ Bullock took the stage to reveal the first footage of MechWarrior 5, which is being developed using Unreal Engine 4. You can watch that demo in the video above and head over to MW5mercs.com for more info.

I want to like it, I want to be excited, but I'm angry that they essentially had MWLL killed off in favor of their inferior Mechwarrior Online.

I'll reserve judgement till I see the game in action.

If this is anything like the past few MW games then it's going to be as good as any random COD.

I really do miss MW 2 and 3.

Looks cool, I mean, it's Mechwarrior...but that "arena" seemed to be awful small compared to traditional installments in the series. Still excited to see how this turns out though, of course, but it's not exactly looking epic just yet, like it should. Mechwarrior is one of the games that brought me over to PC gaming...would be nice to see it return to its former glory as one of the top PC titles.

This was one of my biggest problems with Mechwarrior Online.

I tend to agree myself, I was in Widowmakers on the Grand Council ladder in MW2 playing in LAN mode online over Kali long ago. Just doing a batchall on what server to drop on and what class mechs was a bit of a process back then

Class 1, all lasers, in TW's 2 on 2 when JJ's where like flying were very intense, DFA's and putting your feet through someone cockpit at high speed was an art form back then

Loved Class 3 fights myself, there were just ladder rules involved there ATT.

Is a bit old school these days, but was fun.

I paid for Legendary Founder status when MWO came out, and ended up not playing very often to be honest, thought it was a bit of a letdown personally.

For me it's all about the "Mercenaries" part.
One of my best Mech memories is getting a headshot on an Atlas in the early missions of the campaign. When you can potentially salvage every enemy Mech in the game it makes the missions a lot more interesting.
That and I miss the freeform loadouts, I hate having "classes" of Mechs, even if it's nothing like the original Battletech universe. If the best loadout a dozens of machine guns or light lasers, then that's the loadout I want (usually medium pulse lasers and a gauss cannon or two).
