BIOS setting to turn it off at all times, or the big switch on the back of your PSU.

Yeah, doesn't make sense why they made it like that. Like why does it need to be on, if the computers shut off? Sure it looks cool...but still.rolleyes.gif

VRM block arrived today. It's just barely long enough and maybe 0.5-1mm on the narrow side but I think it will be fine. Too tired to drain the old loop and hookup the new Aura board to the loop today. smil3dbd4e4c2e742.gif

I just picked up one of these motherboards last week. I am tentatively replacing my Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3. I've seen many Gigabyte converts in this forum biggrin.gif I was tired of all the bios bugs even though I was satisfied with my OC. I'm hoping to get at least 4.6 out of this new setup and to get ram timings similar to what I had. We'll see how it goes. This is my best sort of stable OC so far (pictured below).

I have some questions:

What are the temps being measured in HWinfo64? The labels are: CPU(Tctl), CPU Package (TCI), CPU, and Motherboard. I've looked all over for the types of sensors on this board and read through this entire thread and I still don't know exactly what these labels mean.

Several people here have mentioned the 801 Bios is more stable than the 901. Is that still true?

Last thing, a few people have talked about attaching fans to their VRM heatsink. I had good success with this on my Gigabyte board. I would also recommend making a backplate mod for the VRM's as an alternative or additional cooling solution. You can get a nice low profile heatsink online such as this one on Ebay. I am currently using it on my board and it is taking on quite a bit of heat. You can find examples of the mod on this thread

Fan shouldn't be needed since it will be custom water. However I'm having the same problem as I did when using a VRM block on the UD3. Only the outermost mosfets make proper contact with the thermal pad.

My solution for that on the UD3 was to double up the thermal pad only on the middle section of the block, will have to try that again.

Zip tying a 60mm fan to the VRM heatsink seems to have eliminated CPU throttling that I was dealing with. This is what my HWinfo64 looks like, "Temperature 1" is the VRM's.

Looks like NB block isn't happening. Although the holes line up perfectly they're drilled on the wrong side for the block to fit. If it's twisted in a weird angle to fit the block ends up hitting the Am3 bracket.

Edit: Now the other block I was using for the NB on the UD3 has extra acrylic that could be drilled into to make holes that fit but... I've never drilled acrylic before (likely need special acrylic only drill bit) and these blocks are basically irreplaceable thinking.gif
