Marc0053 Wins HWBOT 2016 World Championship
Taking home the Gold for Overclock.net in the HWBOT 2016 World Championship is our very own Marc0053. Marc travelled all the way from Kingston, ON Canada to CaseKing in Berlin, Germany to face off against 9 other overclockers in varying benchmarks.
In the first Qualifier round 9 overclockers competed as a group in SuperPi 32M, Cinebench R15, and 3DMark Fire Strike Physics at 5GHz limited to the Intel Core i5 6600K provided at random. Given only 3 hours to compete Marc0053 started out strong with 1st place in SuperPi 32M, 2nd place in Cinebench R15 and 3DMark Fire Strike Physics.
The rest of the rounds were 1v1, with overclockers competing with randomly drawn benchmarks from the pool and veto power to choose a different benchmark.
In the first round with Marc0053 facing off DSLREye in SuperPi 1M. DSLREye was disqualified after causing his CPUs death giving Marc0053 a victory and progressing him to the Semi-Finals.
In the second round facing off against DrWeez, the benchmark drawn was HWBOT X265 and was vetoed by DrWeez. The second was SuperPi 1M and Marc0053 gladly accepted having a 30 min head start from the previous round. The nailbiting round came close to eliminating Marc but in the last few seconds he gained the lead with a score of 5 sec 907 ms compared to DrWeez behind an astonishing 62 ms at 5 sec 969 ms. After narrowly defeating an elite overclocker, Marc0053 progressed to the final showdown.
In the final battle of 2016, Team PURE's Xtreme Addict and Overclock.Net's Marc0053 were given 30 minutes to decide who was the World Champion. With redrawn CPUs in hand SuperPi 32M was vetoed and HWBOT X265 was the benchmark given to the top 2 overclockers. Marc0053 pulled ahead with scores right out of the gate with XA struggling to get even a score. As XA finally managed to rein his motherboard under control, Marc0053 continued to improve his score.
In the final minutes XA conceded after struggling to control his hardware and Marc0053 not pushing ahead until XA started pushing his own again. The final score was Marc0053 with 40.33 FPS and Xtreme Addict with 36.35 FPS crowning Marc0053 the 2016 HWBOT World Champion.
